Re: New SA bakkie on display in Nasrec - Brandt BRV

I think they over-built it, if the goal is an out-and-out veld vehicle. There is little to match an Uri. It is a shame it never took off. We had a farm manager from Koes and he brought one to the...

Re: Amarok roof bars for kayak

Does the Holdfast rack mount using the same principle as the Thule? I.e. a foot mounted on a threaded rod, screwed into a captured nut in the Amarok's roof?
I need to go through this exercise as...

    Re: All vehicle modifications illegal?

I just came back from a country where they really don't care. Newest mod for the cool brigade is to have strobing LED lights mounted in the head and/or tail lights. So you're parked at the traffic...

Re: Are Discovery 4's really that bad

Random thought: There sure are a lot of these "crap" vehicles out there. As I was driving home now, I was struck by just how many D4's are on the road. Granted, most will never see a spot of gravel...

    Re: Accommodation in Cape Town

There is a Protea Hotel, just up the hill (I think they call it Tyger Valley?) and any number of AirBnB places in Plattekloof, Panorama or even Loevenstein. All close to where you need to be, but...

Re: Garmin 64s for overlanding /Gravel Roads

Just be aware that the screen size on the 64 is very small and that has an impact on its usefulness in a vehicle. I have a 62 that I've used for many years, but recently I've started leaving it at...

Re: Are Discovery 4's really that bad

Skoonpa has a 98(?) Tahoe on the farm in Namibia. It has somewhere north of 300k km on the clock and doesn't use a drop of oil. It drives like a barge, but is VERY comfortable in the veld. Only issue...

Re: Are Discovery 4's really that bad

I dunno. I'm on my second one. The first was a V8. Absolutely brilliant vehicle. Still miss it. The current one is a diesel. It is also nice, but I'm not keeping it outside of the maintenance plan,...

Re: Trailer chassis number stamping - Cape Town

Sounds dodgy, doesn't it. :) They've had it for close to 35 years now. Every year the license gets renewed on time. She's already had a first round at the Stellenbosch SAPD vehicle department. They...

Trailer chassis number stamping - Cape Town

Where do I take a registered trailer to have it assigned a chassis number and stamped? Bellville or Cape Town area preferred. I know I can get it done in Paarl Traffic Dept. on Mondays, but I'm sure...

Discovery 4 Re: Xlifter- has anyone done it?

    Re: Is this it?

After watching this, I'm thinking the reason why it took JLR so long to get the new Defender out, is because of all the own-brand accessories they had to develop.
It is the first time I've seen a...

Re: Looking for fuel efficient daily driver 4x4

I actually think we missed the boat here. Within the next 10-15 years China and India will be dominating the hard-core 4x4 scene. It just makes sense, as the developing markets are where the demand...

Re: Garmin Hack: Credit Card Details et al nicked

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

    Re: JK shocks

It may be worth installing a set of Fox shocks? They are the de-facto standard for JKs with a bit of self-pride.
However, even a pair of quality shocks won't cure the JK's inherent ox-wagon ride. :)
