Optima - worth it's weight in gold.

But yes, in between would be your high quality heavy duty starter batteries.

Typically for any specific size battery you get a normal battery and a heavy...

Marine or as Willard call them Leisure AGM batterries, excellent choice casual use. You can leave them alone for a year (if they are fully charged) and simply FFF.

Actually no, they are a surprisingly good choice for a UPS. They charge fast, float nicely, produce huge power, and they are cheaper.

But that is for a normal/traditional UPS application. Like...

    Careful guys

Better name for hi-cycle is "starter battery". which means you cycle it several times a day, 365 times a year.. But only mildly discharge, not deep discharge. Hi Cycle is an...

Re: Deep cycle vs high cycle help!

    mmmm,

The main problem with most Deep Cycles is that once flat they need a "kick in the pants" to wake them up and start taking charge. DC-DC which compensates for cable voltdrops and boosts the...

    Real simple answer.

Battery Isolator - High Cycle - Definately not a Deep Cycle.

Re: Those who said, electric vehicle, NEVER!

It is completely feasible that EV will be as good as and cheaper than an ICE sooner than many think, for 99% of the applications.

When, in SA, I predict about 5 years or so.

    Today I travelled...

When all else fails just connect the panel’s directly to the battery. Grab a voltmeter and put on your “battery charger” t-shirt.

But you are using the most expensive electricity in SA.

More realistic prices for most of SA would be closer to R2.20 per kWh

And an incredibly good urban cycle litres per 100km.
