Re: Runva Winches - Any experience?

I have a come up which is around the same price as runva I think?
Not used hard but pulls boat onto trailer when required and pulls out trees when needed.
  3. Re: Replacing brake pads and discs on amarok

I normally do three sets of pads per set of discs and the power brake guys said that is pretty normal

    Re: Johannesburg Heatwave

Hmm poseur. We have the same issue in my office. Have already shelled our for large AC, but don't feel like paying more for insulation when it is not my place. I feel your pain. Last year this time...
  5. Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

Well 15k service. Just phone vW woodmead. 2.2k for an oil service! Thats pretty dear considering they change the oil (4ltrs) and filter, and don't forget the new sump washer! Very NB they run a...

    Re: Johannesburg Heatwave

Not sure how easily you can access your ceiling, but trust me on this. Crawl up there and fit the thickest isotherm you can find. Difference its night and day! Builders sell pretty thick stuff up...
  7. Re: Replacing brake pads and discs on amarok

I would further comment that I replaced the rear drums and pads on the amarok at 265kish from memory. I just thought I should at that point.

Shouldn't have wasted the money as they were...

    Re: Johannesburg Heatwave

Well our thatch house which is as cold as an eskimos nuts in winter, is just hitting its stride now. No AC, but never feels overly warm inside. Yay to triple volume (only in summer!)

    Re: Amarok jack

I have used the amarok jack under duress a couple of times, once for the boat and once for the amarok towing the boat. Those bottle jacks in my mind should lift the axle or wheel strut, but not the...
  10. Re: Replacing brake pads and discs on amarok

I am a fan of the power brakes. They just seem well put together and it is a 10 min job to fit them and then you know they are done right. At your milage I would also bleed the system, something that...

    Re: Caravan Electrical Laws

I think fluffy should sit on a SANS committee for his sins. Its strange how some areas fall through the cracks and are not covered by any regulations.

I don't like tingling feet as he mentioned,...
  12. Re: Ridiculous maintenance cost of Freelander II

Sounds like pretty reasonable maintenance to me. I think anything under 2k/tyre is pretty good going for a 4x4. I have just bought an UP! and it is super light on fuel, tyres etc. I am loving it but...

Completely drained and flushed the whole system and had the fluid resivoir out for cleaning with compressed air so pretty sure all clean on that side.

    Re: Power steering Issue?

Nope they are all hundreds and as soon as the revs are just above idle, there is no noise. only on idle and only when applying steering effort.

    Power steering Issue?

Any ideas from the peanut gallery? I have been having an issue with groaning noises, only at idle and only when applying the power steering. Initially I thought it was just the belt, so I put a new...

    Re: Raptor or Amarok V6

I think the v6 is the easy choice unless you are desert racing. The v6 seems to outperform the ford in every performance and towing metric and is not a total dog in the suspension dept.

    The ford...
  19. Re: Also now part of the Wolfpack. V6 Amarok.

I am not sure what tyres you are running, but I have 265/70 r 17's on mine (not a v6) and that gives it quite a lift. My suspension is bog standard, with the exception that I have Bilstein shocks.

  20. Re: Also now part of the Wolfpack. V6 Amarok.

Very nice rigs. Do you know if 17inch is an option? I would have thought the disc brakes are a lot bigger on the v6 and with the higher tow rating it might have much larger discs than the other...

Discovery 1 Re: Camel Trophy Tribute D1 300tdi

A superwinch period correct would also be nice. I guess it depends on how trophy you want to make it?

I would concur, but there is nothing wrong with an opinion based on the manufactures data they have released. It is really their fault as I don't think they have made any vehicles available, other...

    Re: New Eskom pricing proposal

I agree with MikeN that the model may be effective and possibly reflect the reasonable cost of sustaining the grid. A big issue is that Eskom maintains the large grid. Usually the Local Munic...
  26. Re: VW Amarok vs Ford F150 Raptor v Ranger Raptor v Mercedes X-Class

Interesting that the amarok also was the only one with a canopy fitted which would add a fair bit of mass which would negatively affect all the tests they did negatively.
  27. Re: Most important factors for off-road caravan

Then you can go you to 550kgs unbraked or up to 1100 braked.

Then also check the Suzuki gvm as an 1100kg trailer should have a tongue mass of around 100kgs which you can then deduct from the...
  28. Re: Most important factors for off-road caravan

I wish you the best of luck, but I think unless you have taken on this type of thing, you are going to be heavily over budget, on weight, cash, etc.

Also it will remain a home-built so will...

It would be interesting to hear Fluffy's opinion on this, as well as from off-grid users like Aviator. I think it is pretty difficult to go completely off grid without either some lifestyle changes,...

Re: Kudos to JLR Centurion & JLR RSA

Itís a relatively new vehicle so they may just want to get it back to the workshop for a full analysis and breakdown to identify the root cause.

This seems to be more common on new to market...

Re: Who has fitted a front winch to a D5

Peter Simons at Mr Winch perhaps? I was at the Dbn ski boat club and I know they have an LR d5 as one of the dealer vehicles assisting, and most of them had winches, but I don't recall 100% if the d5...

    Re: Boat trailer axle replacement

I would do it at home for sure. If you get the axle, the locater brackets usually need to be put welded on as well as the brake lines bracket if equipped.

Apart from the welding, it is a very easy...

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

Re: Heavy Towing with 90Kw Amarok

    Amarok actually...
