    Re: Suspension component Help

    I agree.

If ain't broken, don't fix it.
Although there is a lot of experience on this forum, if something happens to the trailer with it removed, no-one is going to help you.

    Re: Defender sagging left back

I think the big thing is what springs to get and by whom it was manufactured.

I won't ever again buy aftermarket springs, the genuine ones aren't that expensive.

Then you must decide normal or...

    Re: Defender sagging left back

The Defender's springs was designed so that the vehicle will be level with a full tank and 80kg on the driver seat.

The only way for you to get it level unloaded is to play with spring lengths.

Re: 300 Tdi scratched cylinder head busy failing

    AMC is the ideal head.

When skimming you must keep the following in mind:

    1. The valves must be recessed to compensate for the loss of material.

    2. Piston protrusion.

    I think the reason...

Re: 300 Tdi scratched cylinder head busy failing

Unfortunately this happens, you knew better but you can't do anything about it.

There is a lot of corrosion damage and according to the manual you are not supposed to skim it, so this is a good...

    Defender Re: Correct Gearbox Oil

I fill it up, just enough plus the little bit it won't suck up, pressurise it and put a o-ring on the trigger.

Then I can carry on with my other stuff, it fills it self.

    Defender Re: Correct Gearbox Oil

If it's an awkward position like on the R/H side with little space because of prop shaft and chassis, then it will be a LT77.

This is where the overheating and water comes from.

Re: Disco 1 300tdi oil usage

    "500stes" is 0.127mm, that's a bit more than a tight sliding fit I think.

There must be no sideways play, according to the manual, maybe you could just ask him if there is any.

Although the engine and gearbox is the same, LR did some enhancements.

The lower part of the block has some extra bracing for one.
I would guess that the mapping of the ecu is also different.

If you are hesitant about welding, just put a magnet on the sump plug.
Then you will know if it's weldable.

But I'm sure it a steel plug.
