  1. Re: LC105 4.5P: Independant Workshop in Pretoria area

On the LCCSA the consensus seems to be that Hatting Motors in Centurion and Henry Motors in Lynnwood are the best. I recently serviced my 76 at Henry motors and was happy with the service.

    Re: LEGO Defender

Yeah, the temptation is strong. I have the Lego Unimog and Actros 8x8 models already. So even though I'm not the biggest fan of LR, I'm trying really hard to convince myself to NOT get this, to add...

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

I've said this before, my biggest concern with the 240 diesel model - which in the 110, should in theory be the pick of the litter, is that it's a 2.0l turbo-diesel pushing out almost 180kw. And it's...

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

    I agree.

To add, 20 years ago, fuel wasn't really part of the budget for a holiday at the coast. These days, it's a huge part of that budget.

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

True, but if you look at the extras available from LR themselves, it at least looks like they considered aerodynamics while doing the design. The roofrack and ladder looks a lot more aerodynamic than...

    Re: 76 or 78

The swop makes NO sense unless you REALLY need the extra space. If the extra space is important, then maybe. But you will probably hate yourself later for giving up the V8.. ;D

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

Thanks Koos, so the Defender should be a lot more fuel efficient than a G, all other things being equal of course. And I would suggest they're targeting a similar market.

Re: Do you like the new Defender?

Your logic doesn't quite work here. Just because something has bad aerodynamics, it doesn't automatically follow that it's great off road. And the opposite also applies, good aerodynamics doesn't...

It's a massive difference. And, all else being equal, it will improve fuel economy by a lot.

Re: LC 79 DC headlight fix

Yes, you can only do so much with the headlights. If you need proper distance, you'll need spotlights.

Re: LC 79 DC headlight fix

    I think you basically have 2 options;

    1. Put in better H4 globes - I've had good service from the Philips Extreme Vision and Racing Vision globes. Prices are probably around R400 to R500 for a...

Yes, I'm sure it will. But perhaps at some serious cost to their reputation. But, that part remains to be seen. However, I'm sure the drivers of any current vehicle from the LR stable, will be very...

    Re: Is this it?

Change just for the sake of change is stupid and should rightly be resisted.

In this case, you could argue that LR were forced into change by changing safety regulations. But most of the...

Re: My LC 79 v8 Journey

Nice, now you need to start looking at the space between the seats. A nice little fridge is very handy.

But yes, one of the best parts about owning one of these, is modding it up to suit your...

Re: LC 76 extras and cruise control

Hi Vlaggies, yes absolutely. IMO, there's basically no downside with the 33s; it revs a bit lower at a true 120km/h, it just looks better and it's obviously also more capable off road. Sure, the...

Re: LC 76 extras and cruise control

Yes, Big Country have a nice console for the fridge, and IMO, the best fridge as well. And they do the Cruise Control.

Re: Cruiser 76/79 V8 owners take note

Yes, I have 80000kms on my clock and only recently fitted the catch can, I see LiquiMoli sells a decarb product, but wonder how effective that can really be? It's called ProLine Intake Cleaner.

Re: Cruiser 76/79 V8 owners take note

So will that intake "clean" itself over time, after fitting a Catch Can, or blanking the EGR? Or is it something you will need to get done somewhere?

Re: Land Cruiser 70 Namib edition

IMO, these are actually some of the reasons why I would NOT buy it.

    1. You can now get better spots for cheaper.
    2. I would prefer to fit other tyres.
    3. Part of the fun of owning a LC is the...
  31. Re: New Land Rover Defender - World Premiere 10 Sep 2019

Yes, but the Discos also had the 8-speed?

But I agree, with a small diesel you basically HAVE to have more ratios. But the Amarok is about 300kgs lighter than the Defender, and has about 45kw...
  32. Re: New Land Rover Defender - World Premiere 10 Sep 2019

It's sort of interesting that nobody seems to be worried about the little 2.0l turbo diesel in the new Defender. It's pushing out almost 180kw and has to pull around 2.3+ tons of car, so it's going...

    Re: Is this it?

Sorry, but the rear is fugly. The rest of the car looks good though. Tyres on the steel wheels are 255/70/18s. So not bad - basically a 32 inch tyre. Would be nice if it can take 33s but somehow I...

Re: Land Cruiser VX vs GX

Thanks, wasn't too sure of that one, so I was speaking from memory - which is admittedly shaky these days. Or maybe I mistook it for my 76. Now that's a REAL Cruiser..

    Actually, don't mind me, I...
