    Took the plunge and fitted new brake pads front and rear on the D3. Was rather surprised how simple it was! Thanks to this forum for the many tips. Looks like economic reform will turn more and more...

    +1 on the Thermostat and pipes. Easy to spot from the front with the bonnet open. Check plastic connectors on the water pipes and have the water pump checked for leaks.

    This was a complete rebuilt box and not just a service.

    They run specials from time to time but normal service cost quoted around R5k at the moment.

    Reason for doing it was my warranty plan...

    Should also note I had a similar problem with lean banks and vehicle cutting out. Turned out bad fuel added in Komatipoort. Cut out about 5 times driving back to Jhb from Komatipoort.

    I just had the box done on my V8. Whilst driving to Pmb it would hunt under full load - gear irrespective. Same lean bank 1 & 2 error codes.

    MAF is clean, wires properly connected etc.

    What have you done with your Discovery today?

    Finally got my D3 V8 back yesterday after having the whole gearbox re-done at ZF. The only mechanical parts that got used again was the housing!

    Very strange feeling as the gear changes are not...

    Does it have Terrain Response in the centre by the great lever?

    If memory serves that is the Sport HSE so it will have centre and rear diff locks.

    Drive to RG border post - best economy number ever!

    7,8km/l at 89,2avg speed - amazing the difference a new Propshaft makes to the loss of drive power to the wheels...

    Check your bonnet switch.

    Open again and make sure the switch is in correct place and wire not loose. Close bonnet properly - make sure both sides latches are secured.

    Then open and close each...

    In my experience - and this will cause debate and freak out the "older" folk - leave the engine dirty.

    Any leak - water, oil etc shows up IMMEDIATELY! This mindset recently saved my D3 V8 motor...

    It's an 05 and I bought it on 207,000 going in next week for 280,000...
