    Re: KD2 in 2021

This is a copy of an email I received on 15/12.

We are waiting for the new hunting company to be selected by the community,
If the previous hunting operator is replaced or if a new deal is...

    Re: Eastern Cape November 2021

Francois did tell me they had had a 2nd flood.
He was off to Kgalagadi, so not sure if you will get hold of him on 084-555-7770.

    Re: Stopover outside CKGR

    Thanks for all the replies.

We have previously driven from Khama to CKGR towing a Metalian trailer but progress is definitely slower with a caravan and we will probably be 2 couples, both towing....

    Stopover outside CKGR

We hoping to go to CKGR next year.

It's a long drive from Khama to Sunday pan, best camping stopover looks like Tuuthebe Lodge or Rakops River Lodge, any comments please? Rakops probably makes for...

    Re: PCR or rapid exiting

Seems to be a bit of a grey area.

In September we came back into SA through Ramatlabama. I had been told a rapid test would be enough, even had a phone number, but when we got there, there was no...

    Re: First Botswana self drive

Hi Rob, I think you have been given a few worthwhile suggestions so far, so here are a couple more, or confirmations.

I am not keen on Thakadu, it was in a terrible state when we last used it...
  9. Re: Who can make an awning like this - in Cape Town area

I would go to them for canvas work, but the aluminum fabrication will probably be a problem.
  10. Re: Who can make an awning like this - in Cape Town area

Speak to the guys at Bushwakka. They do custom aluminum fabrication and canvas work.

    Re: Eastern Cape November 2021

[QUOTE=Doug;4779734]The other problem was that the water was pouring down the cliff and the camp site was under water, this all happened in a about half an hour and then the river came down.

    Re: Eastern Cape November 2021

We had the site next to the slipway on the sea side, there was only 1 other site occupied on that side of the slipway. The river sites upstream from the slipway were all taken except 1 small site....

    Re: Eastern Cape November 2021

We did not drive through the kloof, this time, but people we spoke to who had come through from PE said the road was not great.

The western side down the Nuwekloof Pass to Uitspan was fine, and...

    Eastern Cape November 2021

In November we did a 2-week trip to the Eastern Cape. The planning for this started when 2 of our friends suggested we join them to see the Bedford Country Gardens. This year the gardens were open...

Re: So who is going camping this weekend?

It makes such a difference when you have pro-active owners/managers.
We really enjoyed our stay at Moon River.
Colleen at Amanzi also helped by sending a timely warning when Namibia changed from 7...
  18. Re: December 2021 Baviaans and EC Road Trip Advice

It depends what routing you want to follow. Uitspan is on the NW side and Kudu Kaya on the SE, so either can be accessed without towing through the whole Kloof, if you prefer.

    We have been to M...
  19. Re: Best route and border post to Mabua gate from Cape Town

On our way back, Ramatlabama - Cape Town, last month we camped at Marrick Safaris. Camping seems a slightly informal arrangement and they allow you to use the ablutions and power, if you need, from...
  20. Re: Route option from South to North inside GNP

If I was going to Liuwa at that time of the year, I would use the shorter route via Nata, and include Kasanka to see the bat migration, if you havent seen it previously.

Re: Vehicle with off road trailer recovery

I carry a piece of 12mm ply, about 1 x .3m, to put under the jockey wheel if necessary, works in sand but probably wont help you in water. Packs away far easier than the rounded shovels.
  28. Re: A trip report of our travels around South Africa during Aug - Sept 21

  35. Re: Richtersveld would you rooftop or take an explorer ?

Different opinion; I would say it depends how long you are going for and how slow you are prepared to travel.

Akkedis pass seems to be wider and easier to negotiate than it used to be, but...
