Not really. 99 times out of 100 Diff locks are king.
It depends on the circumstances. There is an obstacle at Hennops that I was able to do easily with my Jimny with TC that the SJ's with Much bigger tyres and diff-locks could not do. The Diff lock...
StevenG proved that driver skill trumps all of the traction aids.
I never found a solution.
I haven't encountered any real issues. I have a Samsung Note 10.
The stock tyres are crap. Changing them to a better all terrain in 215/75R15 makes a huge difference. Unless loaded, 1.6 bar all round gives the most comfortable ride on tar.
You can quite happily...
I found a write-up.... https://www.bigjimny.com/mediawiki/index.php/Door_open_buzzer
There is an easy fix for this. There is a plug near the ignition that can be unplugged. I can't find the pics right now. I'll post back here when I find them.
How about getting out there, and try what you think it says in the manual and then come and give us feedback.
This works as you say, so how do you turn off traction control then?
:-X
This still applies to the 2018- models
Having had an auto locker in my Gen 3, I wouldn't recommend going that route. They are difficult to live with on road, excellent off-road. I also went through 3 sets of crown wheel and pinions...
I just read that section (and the rest of the chapter). Nothing is said about traction control at all.
The only thing you can turn off when in low range is "hill hold".
ESP can be turned off in high range, but reactivates over 30kph.
I have had my Jimny since Nov 2018, if the traction control could be turned off, I would know about it. Please give the reference in the manual where it says the traction control can be turned off.
The traction control cannot be turned off.
Less packing space with the back seats up;D. A little more with the back seats down
The manual isn't much faster. Yes, it can maintain 120kph on the highway. Top speed is around 150kph.
Even though it is slow, it is still fun to drive.
There are a number of factors that can cause the issue e.g. wheel balancing, worn bushes, warped brake discs, etc. The kingpin shimming is recommended when all of the other issues have been attended...
Depends on what you want it for. Hard-core off-road, then auto. Milder trails and overlanding, definitely manual.
As long as you are not a speed junkie, the Jimny is great as a daily runabout.
You won't be disappointed with it's off-road abilities. I've done virtually everything with mine. From doing Koos se klim at Moegatle (when it was totally stock), to Baboons pass and DVR Falls.
The block cracking issue was only on 2008 and early 2009 models. I am unaware of any head issues.
The shocks are the same on Gen 3 and Gen 4.
Yes, there is more clearance on the new one. I had 215/80R15's on mine with no lift, and they fit without rubbing at all.
The stock Gen 3 has less clearance under the diffs than the average bakkie, which determines middelmannetjie height. So fitting bigger tyres gives you more advantage than a lift. With my first Gen...
It depends what the goal is. If you are after better off-road performance, then definitely tyres first. If you are after improving the ride, then suspension first.
For rated recovery points, that seems reasonable, however it looks like you need their bumper as well.
Go to Wild 4x4 they know how to fix it
He's not in Centurion, but in Boksburg, Wild 4x4 knows the SX4 quite well. Mine goes to them for servicing.
You van have the caster corrected.
You may find it very underpowered too at 47kW. The 660cc Turbo's are intended as run abouts in narrow roaded old Japanese cities, where the speeds are generally quite low.
I have 3 cars available to me to drive. Two need new batteries, because they just don't get driven. SWAMBO and I both choose the Jimny over the other cars, whether it's a trip to the shop or down to...
