Re: Planning to go off grid on electricity

The only problem I see is you assume other people are using power to your lifestyle. This more than doubles your price per unit. We have seen members here using less than 4 units per day so they...

    Surge protection - S20 275V MOV's

With our summer approaching - any inputs around using say 4 MOV's in parallel per polarity and placing it close to the source - e.g. close to the panels and connected to the same earth wire that goes...

Ford & Mazda Re: Load Bin Power Advice

Using an adaptor again introduces a loose fit. Rather cut the lighter connection off and fit a Hella. Any of the sockets should be fused so it is no train smash if the connector is not fused.

    Re: Camp near Nelspruit

You can also try the Malelane golf club. I don't know what the condition is but locals might give an input. This will be on your way to Krokkies.

    Re: Warning battery charger cables

Here is a picture of the EC3 and XT60. The EC3 is used on the lithium car jump starter and good for over 100A. Both good connectors for panels, fridges and compressors.

Re: License and towing a caravan

Adding these items as a payload would mean any Jurgens/Sprite/Gypsey would exceed the GVM and also a sin. Very easy to exceed 750kg even with a camping trailer. Thus even with the EB1/EC1 not inside...

    Re: Camp near Nelspruit

You will enjoy the Hippo Waterfront Lodge about 12km before Nelspruit. As there are only a few camping sites one can always stay over in the economy Buffalo chalets that are 60m away from the river....

Ford & Mazda Re: Load Bin Power Advice

I would firstly stay away from cigarette lighter sockets. Rather wire from the main battery 2 Hella sockets for the fridge and a second one for the lights. You can decide if you only want these...

Re: The Theory, The Practise & the Bank Balance

I would not have thought you will ever allow a 24V bank to drop to 11-13V even in bad times for solar. :) :)

Re: The Theory, The Practise & the Bank Balance

Thanks for sharing your stats. It shown the plus side of big battery banks and always at a high level SOC.

Why did your 24V bank suffer so badly in the middle of Oct 2018?

    Re: Lithium vs Lead Acid

At each BMS on the website there is a detail picture how to connect the cells and BMS and the load/charger connections.
Full marks for the information provided.

Re: Axpert King vs MKS II

With cloud about 40% of the time you don't have access to PV.

The fact that the Solis (or pure grid tied only) cannot generate during times that the grid is off makes a good forum negative point....

Re: Induction plate not running off inverter

So for now we have a number of guys that reported the Good feature of the 1200W Snappy that does not run on 200V. Also it cycles at full power to give a low average power used. The 1200W has thus...

Re: National Luna 25A DC to DC charger

    Re: Warning battery charger cables

Yes these are good for about 25A. Not many goodies use more current. Then if one need more power I like the EC3 EC5 plug and socket that can handle 100A plus. Once again a solder only connection in a...
  19. Re: Elon Musk - Tesla Battery Day - what to watch for

Re: License and towing a caravan

This seems to be in the right direction of how the law is implimented.

The quick test of tare of towing vehicle below the GVM of trailer/caravan could fail the weight test as used by the...
  21. Re: Tires on your trailer / caravan - Best before date?

Re: Solar geyser _Pool pump- which solar way

Willem the Solis could not be used as a hybrid. It is a pure grid tied. What is great is you only connect your panels to it and then the 3 AC wires to the DB. No setup or splitting of a DB. You can...

Re: Solar geyser _Pool pump- which solar way

Yes your point of reference is to not draw from Eskom. Mine was based on OP to save not to use nothing from the grid. Unless one used all the hot water in the morning you will heat the geyser in 1...

Re: Solar geyser _Pool pump- which solar way

My call would be a Solis 4G grid tied inverter with panels. This way you can produce power from PV for the whole house. No matter what is using it. You can set a geyser timer to only come on at the...

Re: Designing a caravan hit a snag.

My idea would be a spring loaded pin. 2 pipes that you move in each other to select the 2 positions for the bed/table. Something like the gazebo legs that you adjust.

  33. Re: I need advice on 2nd battery and maintenance there off in Toyota Hilux

Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

On the plus side the Mecer will always charge the batteries if the grid is on. No problem of forgetting to charge. This is AFAIR.
