  3. Re: What has been your favorite 4x4 trail, 4x4 trip?

Not sure I can pick a favorite, so I will list two:

    1) River Trip. Something wonderful about a group trip (and the cameraderie of your friends) without baving to be in some way responsible for...

Re: Nice lawnmower - stupid wheel design

Details are important in this discussion, but those will only become apparent once you have loaded your pictures.

However, with regard to the concept of using un-lubricated plastic bushings...

Poll: Re: Will you make this climb with your 4x4?

Op skoon klip is sagte rubber baie beter as harde rubber. En muddies het gewoonlik redelikke harde rubber, anders skeur die blokke te maklik af. En die bande wat bekend is om goeie kilos te gee (soos...

Poll: Re: Will you make this climb with your 4x4?

Ek reken as jy nog 0.3 bar uit daai bande haal gaan hy oor daai klip loop soos niks.

Verder reken ek as jy daai bande afhaal en BF of Cooper muds opsit, gaan jy glad nie oor daai klip kom nie.

    Re: Set-Tru chuck my way.

    Thanks Plunger

I made up the inserts before I removed the chuck. That's why it was so critical to open the holes to 26mm... I was already committed.

I am indeed blessed with good friends and a...

    Re: Set-Tru chuck my way.

The last step was to turn the locating shoulder a bit smaller to give the chuck room to move, and then bolt everything together and see if it works!

And the good news is, it does seem to work...

    Re: Set-Tru chuck my way.

Problem is, I had reached the point of no return. If I stopped here, I effectively didn't have a working lathe as I don't have a backing plate for my little 4-jaw chuck, nor any other way to hold...

    Re: Set-Tru chuck my way.

A friend sent me a video on youtube on how somebody modified his chuck to be able to center it. Thing is, I didn't want to modify the chuck itself. Also, I didn't want the alignment mechanism to rely...

    Set-Tru chuck my way.

I have owned an old Colchester Bantam for about 6-7 years now.
When I bought it, it had a Taylor taper-scroll 3-jaw chuck mounted, but only one set of jaws. These chucks had quite a good name, but...

  17. Re: The difference between custom and home made

I agree that custom-made is not the same thing as made-for-own-use-by-the-owner, but that doesn't necessarily mean that a home-made job can't be better than anything you can buy in a shop. And just...

Re: Jeep model and year ??

I think the CJ6 was longer than this.

If an old SADF jeep, it must in my opinion be tbe CJ5 equivalent, although I think strictly speaking military Jeeps had a different model number.

    Re: Precision machine work

That is a very simple little design. The job was well planned and executed, but not too difficult. The shape of the "puzzle" was well chosen to suit the process being used to do the machining.

Re: 1994 Nissan Patrol 4.2 SGL

    The SGL's are carburettor engines.

  26. Re: Have I become stupidly obsessed with a Land Cruiser 100 1HDFTE

Yes, each vehicle has it's weak points. On the Patrol, it's the actuation for the diff lock (if fitted) and to a much lesser extent the chain that drives the front wheels, on the cruiser it's the...
  27. Re: Have I become stupidly obsessed with a Land Cruiser 100 1HDFTE

I firmly believe that there is very little to choose between a 105 cruiser and a Y61 patrol in terms of capability. They are truly very similar cars.
Sure, the TD42 is probably not as good an engine...
