    Re: Swakop Elephant

Sounds like more elephants are on the way, a cyclist has found new tracks close to Hentiesbaai.

RangeRover Re: Exhaust smells of sulphur/rotten eggs

That RR is a petrol. Petrol cats don't get blocked, at least not within a few weeks.
Algea form in diesel, petroleum and Kerosine type fuels, not in petrol.

That smell is caused by some hydrogen...

Re: Service overdue by time not kms question

Due to lockdown? Question is, whether that would be applicable here, since the service was due in February already, long before lockdown.

Re: Guys, PLEASE!!! ALWAYS 4x4 on gravel

Maybe it's the last bit of tar road, that is so bad and chows the tread just before you hit the gravel. ;D

Re: Guys, PLEASE!!! ALWAYS 4x4 on gravel

    Thanks for the enlightenment.
    But it's TIC, isn't it?

Just in case you are serious, how come tyres wear a lot faster when driving lots of gravel road?

Re: Guys, PLEASE!!! ALWAYS 4x4 on gravel

If that is the case, why is the corrugation usually worse in places where people accelerate from slow speeds, like after cattle grids or sharp turns?

Unfortunately that varies widely between the different manufacturers.

Re: Guys, PLEASE!!! ALWAYS 4x4 on gravel

Reducing tyre pressure on gravel or sand is just common sense. But it gets practiced less and less, just like common sense.
I think that reduced tyre pressure has a very similar effect, the driven...

Re: Guys, PLEASE!!! ALWAYS 4x4 on gravel

Thanks Gents, I can't agree more. I fail to understand the "but I don't need to engage 4x4 for that route" argument. When your vehicle does have 4x4, use it. It's there, paid for. Specially in a part...

Re: How stuffed am I? Tyre question

Call your Toyota dealer and see whether they don't accommodate a service, provided you are essential services. If I remember correctly, you farm?

Don't know about JNB, but here work shops do open on request. Maybe check on the tyre place's web site or FB page for after hours contact and try make an appointment.

Have you considered the legal aspect? In case you are involved in an accident, a conversion like that might be a reason for your insurance not to pay out.

They are probably slowly becoming more and more similar. However, the Fortuner's roots are a bakkie based SUV, like Pajero Sport and Ford Everest while the Prado's heritage is the light duty branch...

An aftermarket rear bumper with spare wheel carrier would be a good option. Yes, it does put strain on the chassis and it does add weight far behind the rear axle, but if you don't plan on towing, it...

    Re: V6 Turbo Diesel Hilux?

Unless they plan on a Long Nose Hilux, a straight 6 engine might not fit into the space of the 4 cylinder engines. The Hlux's engine bay can accommodate a V6 petrol, I'd guess a TD V6 wouldn't be any...

Yes, I forgot the north American market, lots of potential there.

    Re: Toyoya 2F 5speed box

You could try and find a H55 gearbox from the 62 series Cruisers, they are 5 speed boxes.

    Re: V6 Turbo Diesel Hilux?

Personally I don't think so. What makes a Fortuner expensive? Gadgets. The foundation or platform stays the same.

    Re: V6 Turbo Diesel Hilux?

The V6 petrol in the current 70 series is the same engine as in the V6 Hilux. Has been for years. A Hilux will never be a Land Cruiser, doesn't matter what engine you stick in there.
