Re: Beach near Maputo for day trip?

I'd much rather go to Macaneta than to Ponta for a day trip, especially in December. Another option is a bit further north at Bilene which is nice because of the lagoon which makes swimming safer for...

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

Yes, the road is really quite nice but remember, heavy rain can change any gravel road from a breeze to a nightmare within hours. Always good to get local advice once you're there.

Re: Mkambati to Port st Johns

We did that route two years ago in July but started from east of the Mtentu River, not from Mkhambathi. The road from Holy Cross to Lusikisiki was fine. Gravel, many twists and turns but very scenic.

Re: kosi bay to Jeff's Tofo area

Iíve driven in and around Maputo many many times. In spite of having a ZA car and not speaking Portuguese Iíve never been searched nor asked for a bribe.

Re: kosi bay to Jeff's Tofo area

After crossing the bridge an alternative could be to head straight through the city centre and along the new coastal road past Costa do Sol. The road continues all the way to Marracuene where it...
  10. Re: Will Garmin 60Cx work with new T4A maps

ďI lost the keys to my old 2010 series maps and can't retrieve them anymore.Ē

I had a similar problem when I moved from a PC to a Mac. I was able to retrieve the keys so I could unlock the maps on...

    Re: Namaqua National Park pub?

Try Die Kliphuis Kombuis in Kamieskroon #+27 (84) 601-0485‬. Quite a popular eatery, maybe theyíll make a plan.
  12. Re: Garage door motor installation in Pretoria (Moot)

Cunningham Door Creations in Waltloo http://cdcdoors.co.za/ installed all the doors and motors in our complex and gave good back-up service whenever we needed them.
  13. MediaRelease: Re: Ramtsediso border post to Katse dam dirt road

If you PM me your email address Iíll send you the GPS tracks. The new road was not on any map, I asked the local taxi drivers for directions and they were very helpful. Coming from Sehonghong I...
  14. MediaRelease: Re: Ramtsediso border post to Katse dam dirt road

I did both the new road and Matebeng pass in January. As said, the new road is easier but has some awesome scenery along the way. Matebeng, going east to west I found the going up to the top steep...

  17. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Weíve got about 10 days to spend in Moz. Iíve got friends in Maputo where weíll spend a few days. The rest is unplanned, camping. Once I get to the coast I know few places from previous trips. Will...

  19. Re: Goodyear Wrangler Adventure no Kevlar?

I bought new tyres two weeks ago. They have a logo on them stating ďDu Pont KEVLAR reinforced layerĒ. This doesnít say where exactly that layer is, but I would assume itís in the tread and not in the...
  20. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Thanks Hennie. Do you know if I could pay with Rand or card? Or maybe an ATM there? Not sure where Iíd be able to get Metical anywhere before that.
  21. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Thanks River Rat. I read your excellent trip report at the time it was posted. Probably one of the reasons why this route is on my bucket list :) If the road is good gravel Iíll manage the full...
  22. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Yes, lesson learned, never pass a fuel stop without filling up. Weíll be at Punda Maria for three days before deciding which route to take into Moz. Hopefully weíll meet someone with fresh...
  23. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Agreed, Iíd definitely plan on an overnight somewhere and thanks for the recommendation. If thereís fuel at Mabote I should manage without carrying cans.
  24. Re: Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Thanks. Yes, 600-800Km would be about the range of a tank on a reasonable road but if the road gets sandy Iíll be pushing the limits. Iíd prefer not to carry jerry cans if I know I can top up...
  25. Fuel between Pafuri and Vilanculos

Good day. Driving a standard 3.2 Ranger, would I need to carry extra fuel on this route or is there anywhere on the route to re-fuel? If there is fuel, can I pay with Rand or credit card or is there...

I used that road from the N8 in May. The first section till the split was corrugated but not unbearable. From the split to the Witsand entrance was recently scraped and in good condition. Leaving...

    Re: Ponta Malongane Tips

I asked the locals about that route and was advised against using it. Thereís a lot of tracks and easy to get lost if you donít know the area. Also a longer distance in the sand. Rather go into Ponta...
