    Re: Pothole Damage Question_Lydenburg

I drive from Jo'burg to Zim every month... and it's a question of luck. At some point you're gonna hit a pothole that shreds a tyre. Or you'll hit one so hard you'll damage a rim. If you're using...
  2. Re: Recommended stop-over between Mana Pools and Beitbridge?

You can turn right at Chinhoyi and take the Gadzema Rd to Chegutu then turn right again, overnighting at Antelope Park in Gweru to avoid Harare, but the road from Gweru via Chibi to the Beitbridge...

Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

Probably, but I bought it in anger. My Wrangler had terminal organ failure, so I paid cash for another used one at a Fiat Chrysler dealer. A week later, they hadn't delivered it, so I stormed in and...

Poll: Re: VW Cross Up! vs Fiat Panda Cross

Had mine since Oct. 2017. True, it's different, but here's the thing. It's fast enough on tar, grips so hard on gravel it makes driving effortlesless and in sand and mud, it's pretty much unbeatable....

Re: The Volkswagen up! as a viable city car choice

The fuel consumption is Fiat Chrysler's little joke. They claim about 4.5l/100 on the Panda Cross. I drive 3,000km a month, mainly on tar, but also on some pretty shocking dirt and average between 8...

Re: New Zambezi bridge proposed... eek!

There's little Chinese investment in Zim, but quite a lot in Zambia. There is a plan to build a bridge at Kanyemba, but it'll likely take a while. The Zambian side has quite a lot of development, but...
  7. Re: Has the LR Discovery died as an offroad vehicle? Or LR the brand in general?

In the long run, it's all a bit daffy, no? More than half the time you're on tar, the rest of the time you're on gravel - so how often are you actually off the road? What was the LR vs LC debate now...

Re: New Pirelli Scorpion All Terrain plus

They're excellent - I have them on my Panda Cross and they're quiet on tar and very grippy on gravel.

Poll: Re: VW Cross Up! vs Fiat Panda Cross

So, the Panda Cross has a couple of problems - mainly tyres. The spare is a ''biscuit,'' so you need to buy an additional rim & tyre, but finding AT tyres this size in SA is a mission. I've failed....
  10. Re: New ZIM Police Minister to tackle Police Road Blocks, Corruption

Currently there are very few roadblocks - four between Plumtree and Chegutu, where I leave the main highway, down from between 25-30. All manned by the military while the cops remain on probation....

Re: Zimbabwe Legal Requirements: Facts & Myths

Not on an SUV station wagon , but yes on pick-up or double cab - and again it must be honey combed. Don't forget your T trailer sign, either.
I drive up every month and have been doing so for five...

Zimbabwe Legal Requirements: Facts & Myths

There's some confusion about what's legal and what's not when it comes to the multitude of road blocks in Zim. This may help:
No, you do not need a listener's license for your car radio receiver if...

Poll: Re: VW Cross Up! vs Fiat Panda Cross

When I'm back in Jo'burg. Currently working in the Northern Cape with terrible signal. Meantime there are tons of you tube videos of Pandas off road. It takes a lot of pedal work on rough ground, but...

Poll: Re: VW Cross Up! vs Fiat Panda Cross

I bought the Panda Cross last month, then took it up to Zim. It's quick on tar once you're in 3rd with masses of torque. On dirt it flies and is much quicker and nimbler than a conventional 4WD. Off...
