Re: Clarifying Questions about an FJ Cruiser

Not to ruin Andrew`s thread. I agree on the wheelbase but from what I have seen it does not pose that big drawback for the FJ.
Modified Wranglers with 35`s and huge lifts are serious trail machines...

    Re: New(import) 4Y engines.

Have experience with the Chinese 4Y copy. They are crap. Very poor quality. I would rather rebuild the original Toyota 4Y.

  7. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

Think one needs to asses what spare part availability will be for any 4x4 that you plan to travel off the beaten track.
I guarantee that knowing some of the manufacturers that we will see a...
  8. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

Hannes that 4.8 also does have an ECU and some other tronic goodies more than a 70 Series Cruiser.;D
But I do agree with the rest.
  9. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

Peter I think in person where many technicians fails is that they are mechanical trained and not on electrical and electronic systems. To optimise the use of a scan tool you need to know the...
  10. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

To be honest there is no 4x4 that I can think of that come close to what you have done with the Troopy.

It is very seldom that a vehicle get stranded with ECU failure. The only ones I know of the...

Re: 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser 4500 EFI

The 4.5 EFI engine is a legend. Must be one of the toughest petrol engines ever been built. When the EFI version of the 4.5 engine were introduced in the 1999 70 Series Land Cruiser there were...
  12. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

Die 4.2 Patrols is 1997 model voertuie wat tot en met 2010 vervaardig is. Selfde as 1HZ Land Cruiser ;D
  13. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

Peter you are hands-on and I am sure your Patrol is in excellent condition like many other of the older 4x4`s here that are taken good care off.
My thing is that many that claim the older less...

  15. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

The less km will be more reliable. Think that most new cars today will do 100k without any repairs or major repairs. Even Chinese products.

My experience on the many trips I have done that very...

Re: Long range tank problems LC 76 wagon

The reality is very few fitment shops do proper installations. There is a very good reason why I do everything myself.

    Re: Towing in 4th

Towing in 4th gear were more directed at the older gearbox designs where the 5th gear were an add-on at the back with reverse gear.
Most of the new designs have all gears on the lay and main shafts...

Re: Botched KZ - D4D Transplant

Think it can be done but the changes to the engine is more than a pump and injectors. You will need a turbo with a wastegate.
Manual controlled throttle body to name a few.

    Re: Swambo`s New Platkar.
