    Re: Wanted: A bazaar tannie

Custard tarts are like stew, every country has some version of it. Whether it's goulash, ragu etc. depending on what vegetables are available locally. So it is with custard tarts. Whether it's those...

    Re: Wanted: A bazaar tannie

Yup, that's the problem with my gran's recipes too. They were only ingredient lists. A note of a tricky bit if you are lucky.

Milktart was so simple it didn't even rate an ingredient list...

    Wanted: A bazaar tannie

I need to lay hold of a bazaar tannie that makes melktert the way it tasted back in the 70s when you proudly brought your prize back home from the church bazaar.

If you have a granny or great...

Re: Marshmallows | Malvalekkers | Camping treats

I wish I had known about this mixer when I bought mine. The decision making matrix would have looked different. I sadly only learned about it many years later.

Re: Marshmallows | Malvalekkers | Camping treats

It's half an hour later Steamer. You boil the moisture out slowly. But safety can't be overemphasized when working with hot sugar syrup. That why I usually recommend that if your children are still...

Re: Marshmallows | Malvalekkers | Camping treats

Oh no. I reviewed the recipe. It didn't make it clear that the same water is split between the gelatine and the syrup.

I have fixed it. I'm so sorry Keith for the confusion. Hope the giant jelly...

Yes I have. Toasted coconut was my gran's favourite too.

Make sure you have at least 200g of toasted coconut before you go shopping.

During the cutting step instead of rolling the marshmallows...

Re: Marshmallows | Malvalekkers | Camping treats

It sets as I'm taking it out the mixer. I'm shlopping it out and shaping it with my wet hands to the height I want it to be. Then I just tidy the edges as if I took it from a pan. You have to trim...
