  1. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

    Sorrie ... I put them back ... you won't see a thing! ;D
  2. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Just a question, maybe I'm missing something, but why not like so in series?
  3. Re: Solar geyser backup element usage.

All NRS approved grid tied and hybrid gird tied inverters in SA has the ability to not feed any power back.
  4. Re: Solar geyser backup element usage.

    Yes, I am grid tied.

Kettles, microwaves, induction stove ... all of them are "big" loads then.
"Big" loads like 2kw geyser element is not supposed to be an issue on any 3/5kva inverter at all. ...
  5. Re: Solar geyser backup element usage.

    Context.

You set the timers, like I do, to switch geysers on when I know I have optimal power, like between +-11 - +-3pm.
Heat two geyser consecutively in that time, 11-1pm and 1pm-3pm. 2 hours...
  6. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Max volts on the MPPT is 150v, so you are well within that at 110v.
Max. PV short circuit current is 40A, again your are good ito your calc of max 33.7amps.

    135 + 135 + 135 + 130 +130 = 650 i.e....

    Re: Tesla 1million mile battery..

AHA - I read about that, the Pylontech limits, on GoodWE. My pal uses Byd.

    Ideally, he said, one needs 3 x 2000 Pylontechs or 3 x 3.5kWH

Yeah, we must not talk too much about Victron ... it...

    Re: Tesla 1million mile battery..

Newlandy, for the record, I'm a Victron supporter ok!? ;D

But, we both are solar supporters. And because a friend of mine has a GoodWE, I asked him on what you wrote above.

    He sent me this...

    Re: Tesla 1million mile battery..

I know with Trojan T105RE's a cycle is:
    4000 cycles down to 20% DoD - 1 cycle per day = +-10 years.
    1600 cycles down to 50% DoD - 1 cycle per day = +-4 years.
  10. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

    Interestingly, they are quite "light".
I carried mine around with relative ease ... just don't let the wind grab it though. ;-)
  11. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

All true. Solar is never easy.

Still I would chose for higher volts for longest possible times per day ... even consider making panels movable/adjustable.

350w and larger panels are split...
  12. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

As sound as this may be, Rule 1 of solar panels: Don't put panels up where there is potential of shade. Nike it. (... just do it.)

Methinks. With a MPPT, wire the volts as high as are allowed .....
  13. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

A very LONG time ago I heard something about that for PWM's yes, but NEVER a word of that for MPPT's.
I stand to be corrected though, yea?

Because with MPPT's there are two things to keep in...
  14. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Jip. Startup is one thing for at the time the table saw starts, their may be other loads on.

Running all off the inverter as the only source, can get interesting.
    Grid-tied, no issue at all.
    ...
  15. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Now THAT was clever ... I have a spare temp sensor since I sold the 2nd battery bank ... ;D

700 is fine ... Bluetooth just better. :)
    I had a 600 for years, then got a 700 which I also had...
  16. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Jip, Victron products are a real Lego system.

To see what goes in and out of the battery, get a Victron BMV. It has a display so you can view it all the time.

VenusGX is expensive, but as I...
  17. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

Because of this little titbit ... the fine print as they say. :)

You can put both arrays on the same MPPT but it is not advisable as it will not produce optimally.

    Different facing arrays...
  18. Re: Amperage for 4x 400W 12/14.4V system

Just to make sure ... the 100 is for max volts into the MPPT from the panels.
The *50* is the max charge current it can send to the batts.
  19. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Depends on how far you plan to go?

Because a VenusGX is a very good central point to access the MPPT from anywhere in the world, to see what it does ito the data it gives.

    And if you are a...

Re: If you had 90k to spend..

Just as a FYI: If you go grid tied, you don't need to worry about that per se.

Say you get a 3kva grid tied inverter, with 3.5kw array, it will offset 2.4kw - temp derating kept in mind - of your...

Re: If you had 90k to spend..

If you want to save on your pre-paid bill, go grid tied.
    Victron
    GoodWe
    Solis

You can get very far with R90k if you shop right.
  22. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

SA is in lockdown ... no flights.
  23. Re: Two different MPPT controllers together?

Ideally the controllers must be identical and program settings on both must be identical, if they cannot be connected as one.

For the nitpickers ... note I used the word: Ideally ... :)

    If they...

    Re: Battery usage?

Very good point to bring up ... saving R20 pm after spending 10 times that (or more) just to have lights run on batts, makes no sense.

Just to be clear. On my post, the 300w, that is over the...
  26. Re: 2nd Generation Grid Tied - solar or battery DC input

Don't think they will backdate anything ... that is IF they even can, legally and doing the sums.

to legally grid tie, you have to follow a process, as in CoCT, and you sign papers to the effect.

    Re: Battery usage?

From 10pm till the sun takes over or the batts hit 80% SOC, my batteries are used.

Inverter set to only feed 300w into the house during that time, back to full power at 9am, as that is what the...
  28. Re: 2nd Generation Grid Tied - solar or battery DC input

Cape Town chose to limit each house to a max wattage per inverter, based on the DB's main breaker. Like on a 60amp breaker, the max inverter size is 3.5kw.
It is in the SANS/NRS regulations already,...
  29. Re: 2nd Generation Grid Tied - solar or battery DC input

What is new that caught your attention?

Eish ... hope SA does not see that!

To sort it is simple though, how they switch off geysers in the past, put that device between inverter and DB...
  30. Re: AGM Battery usage as a second battery.

    Good point.

But what are all these new catalytic converters for?
  31. Re: AGM Battery usage as a second battery.

On top of those questions, I read an article where it was discussed on how much is really saved when you take the fuel saving of the vehicle over in its warranty period, compared to battery and...
  32. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Correction, you are right, 30amps stuck in my mind ...

    And:
You are aware that you are re-charging at +-9% of 400AH at 35amps.
Your loads are monitored so you don't draw that 400ah bank to...
  33. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

Keeping in mind the max panel wattage is for +-5.5 hours per day on clear sky's, optimally positioned:
    135w x 3 = 405w peak best watts for +-5.5 hours per day.
    Add 2 x 135 makes it 675w

    Is that...
  34. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter

16mm2 between panels and MPPT is good, exceptionally good and very expensive. ;D
4mm2 or my preferred 6mm2 would have sufficed on lengths <20m.
25mm2 between MPPT and batts is good, presume the...
  35. Re: Impressed with China Pure Sine Wave Inverter
