  1. Poll: Re: a Dedicated trail vehicle - What one would you choose from these?

Agree wholeheartedly as I nearly flipped the TJ on a very steep incline.

The wheelbase of the FJ and perhaps as Grips mentioned the 76 tho is awesome.

A bakkie based monster again is too long...
  2. Poll: Re: a Dedicated trail vehicle - What one would you choose from these?

FJ was mentioned. The below if the R100M lotto pick my numbers then I’ll have SWAMBO’s FJ converted ;D

A pic of my temporary install in the Hilux loadbin just to show my thinking around different pressure points from below and vibration. The 200AH is a monster, 522mm long, thus my "box" will be fairly...

Re: So who is going camping this weekend?

A few pics from our stay at Roratau Bush Camp 23 - 27 Apr. There is 1 tap available and 3 x 6A power plugs. No 220V kettle, hairdryer or microwave for instance allowed for obvious reasons. FIL and...

Enjoy Bruce and please send our regards to Rob and Elsie. We had a great stay 23 - 27 Apr. It is dry though.

  11. Poll: Re: What do you feel more comfortable with, newer car, or an easier to fix car?

    A new "old tech" LC 4.2 ;D

I have overlanded with relatively old cars, a Nissan Sani 3L V6 5 years old, broke down but could luckily fix it myself buying spares in Windhoek. Then did Moz and Bots...

    Re: Towing in 4th

Interesting, I tow a fairly heavy Ratel, when loaded for an extended trip I would guess 1.5 - 1.6 ton, however with a 2.8 auto Hilux.

I normally lock the auto box in 5th and it really needs a...

If one do the sums then yes an Anderson will work, i.e 500VA / 12V = ~42A and the Anderson plug is rated 50A.

Re: 2006 Toyota Land Cruiser 4500 EFI

Yes, I came across their channel couple of weeks ago. I like Dirk and Alti's relaxed way of portraying their trips etc, some hilarious. Dirk is a filmmaker by profession, hence the quality of filming.

  29. Re: Crossing the Namib From Kanaan to Meob bay to Walvis bay

I can watch up to 60 minutes if interesting, but as Joe ave I'd say up to 20 minutes should be fine. I hate the short video stabs without any form of message.

  31. Re: Crossing the Namib From Kanaan to Meob bay to Walvis bay

I'll check our FJ as well wrt 5th gear usage in LR. The manual does not state anything wrt 5th gear not allowed whilst in LR. It makes perfect sense not to use 5th as it must be a tiny gear compared...
