    Re: Bridge camera lens repair

The problem is those lenses all use plastic gears and mechanisms and when they get knocked it typically means something has broken off. They are also very difficult to work on, everything being so...

Re: Huge fire on Table Mountain

It's amazing how embers can land anywhere, sometimes kilometres away from the fire...

There were reports of trees catching fire as low down as the Liesbeck river.

    How old is that model?

Unless it's a current model and quite expensive new it's probably not worth repairing, spares are also neigh impossible to get on many of them.

Paarl is amazing from what I saw, I went through there a few times recently. Clean, no suburban squatters all over like many areas in Cape Town, looks very well run.

It'll probably pay you to get an odb reader and check for the codes, decent ones sell for a few hundred Rand's and can be used with your phone.
  10. Re: Is it possible to buy a usable 4x4 with a R40k budget?

R40k might get you a 4x4 but unless you are scoring the bargain of the century it will probably need a good R10-20k to catch up on maintenance and get it back to all round good working order.

Re: Sikaflex alternative for sealing caravan

Butyl tape is apparently one of the best sealants for deck fittings, it never hardens so can remain water tight for decades and also tolerate a larger degree of movement than sealants that cure.

You can also look on Rockauto.com , it might be cheaper to import one. Just make sure they aren't LHD or RHD specific.

  15. Re: Help! Lost keys to Prado 120. Now im stuck in the mountains.

The best is to hide a dumb key on the outside of the vehicle as well as chipped key inside, that dumb key can only open the vehicle. Plenty hidey holes underneath a vehicle, with the spot I use I...

Was it the manual or CVT?

I know that the CVT Subaru gearbox is very expensive when it breaks, apparently R50k is not unheard of to rebuild them.

Oil and cambelts are things it's not worth chancing it on the service intervals.

And the fact the vehicle has barely been driven isn't great for rubber, I'd definitely have the cambelt changed.
