    Things must have changed for the worse. I owned a Defender 110 2.8i when BMW still owned LR and it was some of the best service I ever got from a dealer/manufacturer.

    If it is of the new generation alternators, you might have a problem. Nowadays, alternators are controlled via the ECU, not so simple anymore. Hope for your sake it's not the case yet.
