    Re: Botswana with kids

Well, growing up in the UK and being allowed to spend your life on an iPad ain't gonna help with awareness or appreciation of nature.

I'd like to think most forum member's kids would be better?

Re: How do you pack an SUV?

    You forgot a few steps.

I throw everything in. Look at it. Unpack. Then throw it all in again. I repeat until everything fits.

Then you go back inside and discover the dog, dog bed, a small...

Re: New Range Rover Sport V8 SVR

Maybe I'm showing my age but the SVR Range Rovers are tappit as anything.

They sound like all of the suped up (i.e. messed up) Golf R, BMW M and Merc AMG cars with their backyard straight exhausts...

    Re: Subaru Shock Absorbers

I think that the XS came with the self levelling shocks.

I replaced them on my similar age XT with the 2.5 X model's shocks and springs and it was only like R 4 000 total at my friend who owns a...

    Re: Tyre shortage

Just been down the same road and exact same size with our Forester.

Depending on the use of the CRV maybe consider 225/55R16.

Our Forester is mostly an in town mommy wagon with occasional...

Amazing. Better price offered than anyone else after a bit of negotiation and so easy and efficient.

Tentco vs Campmor vs Bustec - Quality

    Hi guys

I see that these manufacturers all offer similar products at face value.

Tentco uses a lighter canvas (260g/m2) vs the other two that use 320g/m2.

    Any comments or recommendations...
  11. Re: Karoo NP, Tankwa NP, Garden Route NP, and Camdeboo NP - Trip report and park revi

Anybody going to Karoo NP, book a stay at Afsaal Cottage.

    Most amazing spot.
  12. Re: Karoo NP, Tankwa NP, Garden Route NP, and Camdeboo NP - Trip report and park revi

Most amazing town. I could definitely live there.

    Re: Ford Ranger Raptor

Not when it weighs as much as a Raptor.

    Bloated, underpowered and overly specced.

My 2.4 90 also had endless starting issues and earth strap was eventually the solution so hopefully you’re sorted now.

Re: Everything keeps going right, or does it?

I’ve been thinking about cars in general a lot recently.

I sadly think we’ve seen the peak of reliability vs performance vs affordability already and it’s a downhill slide for us with new...

Re: A Red Dog on an Orange River

    Lovely write up thank you!

What a fine hound and inspiring to see someone overlanding with their dog.

We may do do the same with our Bull Terrier when our son is a few years older.
  17. Re: How tough are these small SUV-buggies like the Ecosport, T-Cross etc.?

I reckon Duster is the most off-road suitable one but if buying new / under warranty, then tyre size is probably the biggest consideration as any newish car will handle mostly tar and the occasional...

    Re: Am I being screwed?

    Pricing seems insane to me.

When servicing an older 120 series Prado at Kingsmead Toyota in Durban I recall being pleasantly surprised by even the big service costs.

    Re: Ranger Tyre Replacement

    Would definitely not go 285.

One size up on profile (65-70) is max recommended without getting into issues down the line.

    Re: 2x4 SUV’s - what’s their purpose?

    Packing space and ground clearance.

Try to take any of the popular last or latest generation softroaders on a sand track or rocky dirt road with 4 adults and some luggage.

    Padskraper of note.

    Re: D3 TDV6 - What a monster tow vehicle!

    2004 Forester Tyre Size Increase

Good to be back on this section of the forum.

Re: Dunlop Grandtrek AT3g (owners review)

The standard AT3 is horrific with road noise!

A friend has some on a 4x2 X Trail and it is literally louder at highway speed than when I had Hankook MT on my Triton or Defender.

  30. Re: Looking for a capable everyday 4x4/Softroader

I’m running the same exercise at the moment - my bakkie is getting to the age where I’ve got big service (200 000km) and likely a clutch due for replacement within the next 20 000km.

    As an aside,...

Ford & Mazda Re: Ranger low rider suspension lift

If it's the normal twin pipe rear tow bar it'll be a helluva lot easier, cheaper and more reliable to find a decent engineering shop to make new brackets that will move the tow bar higher up.
