Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
I have unfortunately punctured the side wall of my trailer tyre on the infamous R355 and now need to find a suitable replacement.
Trailer is a Metalian Mini with a TTT - fully laden is most probably in the 800kg range.
I still have the original Kumho tyres on.
I have the following 2 choices (Without having to get a tyre shop to order in)
Dunlop Track grip
OR
Velocity Raptor
Size 215/80 R15
Both are similarly priced at around R1600
Which would be the better choice in tyre?

Have a set of Velocity Raptors on the Disco 3. No complaints what so ever. Also had a set on the D2 a while back. Good tires. Especially for the price.
Can't comment on the dunlops.

I would not rate either of them any better than those Kumhos
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
Velocity Raptors are excellent. On my second set.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
Track Grips are absolute rubbish compared.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
The Velocity also looks better - however that is not a reason to buy them.

Hi Jakes,
Sorry to hear about your experience, but thank you for your feedback! We always strive to improve our products. If you're willing, please would you send me an inbox to let me know about your challenges with the Track Grips so I can investigate further and possibly advise you on a tyre that will better suit your needs. Enjoy the rest of your day!
Cheers for now,

Thanks. The Velocity Raptors fixed the abysmal mileage issue. Sorry, the Track Grip is a bad product.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
I ended up going with the Velocity Raptor - it is on as a spare at the moment and hopefully will not be needing it too often.

Wait…
All of this was for a spare?

At the moment yes however, going to have to change another of the tyres after my trip coming up and then will be running the raptors as the main tyres.
All part of the long game strategy.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
I have them raptors on my bakkie for almost 2 years, and I have no complaints.
And, they scream loudly when I floor the 3.0 around a corner ;D >:D

+1 I got my Nissan with a set of them on. The tyres are still brand new but they are off round so they cant be balanced properly.
So now I have to drive a vibrating bouncy bakkie until I can replace them
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
I was getting optimistically exited when the gent from Dunlop made contact with me and telling me their technical guys will make contact with me. Unfortunately thats where it stopped. I dont see any of my vehicles in the future having a set of Dunlops on.

My issue as well. I've had a few too many bad incidents and experiences. Promised feedback amd it has never happened. If I were given a set I'd put them on my vehicle, however I ain't paying for a set. Thats for sure.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
Yesterday I got a smell of humble pie but no taste yet.
I got a call from Dunlop Jet Park saying that they will make arrangements with my closest Dunlop Zone to have by bakkies tyres inspected.
Lets see what happens.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
just fitted 4 x velocity raptors 30 x 9.5 r15. time will tell, feels good so far. no real difference from the wranglers I had at the back. Dunlops were the front I won't talk about, lets just say NEVER AGAIN.
Re: Dunlop Track Grip vs Velocity Raptor
Update again:
Yesterday I got a call from Phapedi from Dunlop Jetpark. He told me to take my bakkie to Ronnies tyres (Dunlop zone) for inspection today. I did so and within minutes the guys from Ronnies called. Kom kyk gou hier.
So when I had my rims fitted at TWT they never fitted spiggot rings. So a quick call to the branch manager at Westgate had him fetching my bakkie within 30minutes to have it sorted out.
All seems fine now. I was really amazed ay how quickly Ronnies and TWT sorted my complaint out and was it not for Quinten De Beer and Dunop getting involved it would have been a back and forth one blaming the other game. Thanks guys I am happy now

Does this mean you're happy with the Dunlop's now?
My dad has the Trakgrip (i think its called), and has no issues on his bakkie.
So hier's n vraag: if fitted to a factory standard vehicle, using the correct settings/configurations, what issues were identified in that fitment/vehicle?
