Fortuner: Mikem Coils & Monroe Shocks
2009 Fortuner D4D 4x4 is overdue for new shocks and I'm looking at replacing the OEM Toyota matchsticks with something sturdy but cost effective like Monroe's Gas Magnums. While at it, am also looking at options for a small lift (ideally no more than 30mm) and the Mikem coils are first choice.
Has anyone fitted Mikem coils (front & rear) with Monroe Gas Magnum shocks? I know the guys at Mikem like to pair their coils with Bilstein shocks, but one can surely pair up a different combo.
Some opinions/experience with this combo (if any) would be great thanks!

I have Mikem Coils but, as per your post, with Bilstein shocks. I'm happy.;)
Re: Fortuner: Mikem Coils & Monroe Shocks
I have the Mikem Std length coils in the rear with the Monroe Gas Magnum. Works ALOT better than the OEM setup!
Front is std OEM shocks with a 40mm lift - spacers. Car is level with this combination.
The Monroe's work well for my purpose and pocket. The Bilsteins is ofcourse in a different league.
Re: Fortuner: Mikem Coils & Monroe Shocks
Thanks guys - some good first-hand feedback!
The Bilstein shocks are obviously in a league of their own with accompanying high price tag. The Monroe Gas Magnums obviously a few leagues down, but very well priced for seemingly good shocks.
If I may ask, what did you pay for the Mikem coils, and were they standard or raised lenth? (JR's obviously standard as mentioned)
Would the Monroe Gas Magnums work running front/rear in combo with slightly longer coils (lets say 30 - 40mm)? I've read a few threads mentioning that Monroe only make standard length shocks (for Fortuner) and that using these will risk damage due to over-extension e.g. standard length shock on a vehicle running 30mm lift will put the shock that same distance into it's travel with chance of knocking or breaking.

Yes it will work, mine does. In the rear the shock can not extend more than the coils length - the coil will drop out of the swing arm. The problem comes with bump/compression if the shock is too long, will bend and get damaged.

Thanks guys - will speak to Darrell!
Re: Fortuner: Mikem Coils & Monroe Shocks
I fitted 35mm spacers above the back coils with standard length gas magnum shocks. The shocks knocked over speed bumps from being fully extended. I then fitted 25mm spacers above the shocks. Problem sorted - no more knocking

Darrell bought a lot of stock from other suppliers. So chat to him before you do anything.....
What's your budget like ?
Something you should know that Monroe make only standard size. Any longer you will have to look at other cars to fit yours like. Standard 80/100 series rear shocks. You wasting your time getting better coils with standard size shocks. The rear will be to short.
The Bilstein shocks can be serviced. That also said using Mikem is like a investment. He helps a lot and once I needed shackle bushes replaced and he did not ask a cent of my cash even though I fought to pay him. He also open his shop on the weekend even tho it was there off weekend.
