At some point or other you are going to get stuck, if you don't, well, try harder! Come post some pics of those idiot moments!
I'll begin
With another vehicle, SJ Suzuki so pull / snatch was out of the question. Eventually put the airjack under the rear wheel, jacked the Disco up and managed to drive off the jack (only because prior to that I read Bongani's article on driving off an airjack!).
A stuck moment for myself (a couple of tmes actually). A little mud crossing at Mudslingers was a challange for some of us to cross. None made it in the mucky mud and all had to be snatched out

amaDisco, glad you found use in reading the article.
Here are some pics of me stuck by myself near Sutherland. It took 2.5h of digging and jacking, dropping the tyre pressure to 0.5b and eventually driving out after the sun has set in the cold winter with the front, middle and rear locker engaged.

hi morne if i can remember that was your dad doing the heavy work hey you took the pics cheers IAN
I got stuck once at BrandseBaai (Namakwaland) in a Hire car. I was doing some work at Namakwa sands and have never been to BrandseBaai. I drove the Nissan Almera into the sunset towards the beach, and never saw the road turn off to the left. I carried on up the dune and by the time I realised where I was going I was comitted. I kept going and got to the top of the dune (very rocky) and managed to make a U turn up there. The view was beautiful, but on the downhill got stuck in deep sand. There was a rock where the gearbox ended up on and the front tyres just dug in...... free wheeled in the air...
No cell phone reception, cold and windy and only a lone Springbok on the dune next to me watching me curse as I dug out the car.
The digging consisted off Jacking the car up as igh as I dared, and trying to dig out the damm rock the car was sitting on.
After three hours I managed, and got back to the B&B with more sand on me than I was comfortable with....
Lesson I learnt.... ASK THE LOCALS, at least tell them where you off too. It would have been a looooong walk back to the mine (I guess around 15Km) which would have been safe enough though, as there was no soul in sight...
I'll see if I got pics of the car at work)

This was on the 4wheel drive club Atlantis day that was held late last year.. I was running the recovery crews for the day with LCCSA member to help. In total we had to do one official recovery that day and it was the one below. he he he
When using the sliders one can turn the vehicle around in 2.5meters (normal turning circle is 105 to 12m) Here it went wrong...
THis is what it should look like.
This in interesting climb. You need to do a runup up the dune and right at the top it makes a 90 degree turn with the off camber falling to the right. I was to slow and got stuck in a difficult spot. THe vehicle at the bottom is Ian coming to my aid.
Here's one of me stuck in the same mud pit as where 'Big Red' got stuck...it was at the opening of the 'Mudslingers Trail' near Heidelberg (Gauteng)...
This day ONE vehicle did infact make it through...our very own 'Patrollielorrie' in his Jeep Cherokee TD...

Last weekend this cruiser (MTN maintenance) slid down the side into the mud. (think he didnt engage 4wd) The left rear was sitting in mud over the bumper. Worse was the back axle sat on a log. Had to winch the log out with the lux and then use the high lift. He was there since 09:00, his "back up" recovey colt with under 2000km on the clock managed to get past him here with only a dent on the bin. He then slid off at the top into the bush. I reckon around 10k damage to the body work. Once the cruiser was recovered we got the colt out with a snatch and tow rope.
Moral of the story here is make sure you got recovery equipment and the know how. THe tyres on the cruiser were sitting at 2.8bar. Dropped them down to 0.6 to get out here.

Getting stuck, is one of the fun ways to learn about 4x4ing I think. At least I do learn from my mistakes And luckily so far there has always been a wise helping hand coming to the rescue.

A friend got stuck in the mud recently during our trip to Mbotyi (Wild Coast). The surface looked reasonably dry but below obviously not - see how deep the woman sank into the mud. Took a bit of digging and pushing to get him out. The funny part is that he has a winch, but forgot the remote at home!!

When we were in SA in November we did some playing at Mahem. The closest I have come to getting stuck lately was at the ski slopes in the snow and ice.
Not my Suki, but me diggin anyway. My Landy was on the other end of the tow strap.
Helping Zantus in Bluewater Bay the day he went to show me a lovely sandplit play area. He broke something that day.
At least I can say I helped recover a Land Rover
This is the same hole in which I broke the hilux in December......sometimes I never learn.
I snapped the pin in the front diff, which I thought was a shaft and ultimately the pieces of diff fell out of the spider cage and completely destroyed the diff, including the crownwheel pushing a gear through the front housing......very expensive mistake.
Here we employed some strange recovery tecniques, by firstly snatching it on the wheel to turn it and then because there are no front recovery points, we snatched it on the front axles. It handle it ok, everything is still straight on the front axle and steering.
