D4D Chip
So I know this issue has been talked and talked about a lot, but I was wondering if there is any direct feedback from any one using a chip on a Hilux D4D.
Could you please give details as to what chip you are using, how long you have had it and the positive and negative effects of the chip if any.
My brother's father in law is looking at chipping his D4D and we would like some insight from folks who have done so.
Thanks!

Hi. Go for it. Makes a huge difference. I use a Dastek chip. Been using it for a long time now, no problems.

Won't the improved performance reduce the life of the engine?

So maybe I should ask if any one has had a problem after installing a chip on a d4d? Does it affect your warranty?

If Toyota find the plug in device consider your warranty good bye.

Ja I would have suspected as much... Don't think any manufacturer would tolerate a chip...

Mitsubishi have an in-house chip for the Triton 2.5.

How much is just hearsay about the manufacturer?? Nissan installed an intercooler and Dastec chip to my 3.0 TD Hardbody. They even negotiated a discount from Dastec. At one stage when the Air temperature unit was giving funny readings, they sent it to Dastec to get it analized. For this reason I had my car always serviced at Silverton Nissan in Pretoria and had excellent service always from them. Guys, talk to your dealer and they are not against the good chips. The problem is the black market stuff that can overfuel and cause problems.
Here in Australia any service station can service a car and stamp your book and it is still honoured by the manufacturer. If you have a warrantee claim, they will lodge it for you against the manufacturer.
A chip should be installed and tuned by someone that knows what he/she does and can give you a gaurantee that the chip will not damage your engine. The better type solution also monitors the EGT and cut back when it runs close to the red line. Toyota even approves some chips like Roo systems and DP Chip here is Aus.

Unichip also works well. The Toyota guys in the lowveld say the warranty goes out the door.
The 2.5 d4d reacts the best, iow the most gain . The engine is a low stress unit, so
an intercooler and a chip gave about 50/50. 20kw gain on the wheels. 10 from the cooler and 10 from the chip.

I also have the dastek plug and play chip. Great torque and drivability in 4th and 5th gear! Have taken it out though because it almost dies again on starting and then recovers. Also after pull away once from a robot the car made a bang with no power and engine light coming on. Personally i thought it was a turbo or injector failure. However after restart it was fine - no problems after taking the chip out - dastek reckons it needs to be remapped.
I have to admit that i do not really miss the chip. But i guess it is a nice to have.......

I hate to sound negative, but chips are not good for cars, specially diesels in SA. The injectors already struggle, the gearbox on the hilux is known not to be the best and the rest of the cars parts like prop shaft are not build to handle more power. More power = more heat = more strain.
For those who do it, have fun while it lasts, I feel sorry for the person who buys it second hand and it left with a engine that worked way to hard.

UniQchip met skakelaar geinstalleer wat jou die voordeel gee om tussen 5 voorafopgestelde stelling te kies. Bv.

Had my chip in for 230 000km and no problems. It is a dastek chip and helped a lot for pulling my ski boat to Sodwana. Never died when working on the beach with the boat. All in all I liked it and had no problem.
