P0243 - Turbo waste gate solenoid malfunction

Under harsh acceleration or when driving hard up a long hill the engine management light comes on and it goes into limp mode with my 2004 2.7CRD Jeep grand Cherokee. It can be reset by stopping the car, restarting and driving for 2 km or so slowly but reappears under above conditions. Error code P0243 - Turbo waste gate solenoid malfunction. Dealer has replaced the air flow sensor and one or two other parts but the problem persists, they don't seem to know how to solve the problem... Help!!! I cant tow or drive or drive the jeep above granny-speed otherwise I get punished with limp mode. I need to use the jeep for a trip to the Breede canoe marathon in one week

Ocean, it seems that your turbo is overboosting due to the wastegate solenoid malfunction causing the linp mode scenario. Why did they replace the airflow sensor instead of the wastegate solenoid?? Its obvious whats at fault here!

I also wanted to ask, why if the wastegate solenoid seems to be the problem did the dealer not look at this? I will take it back to them and not pay for the previous repairs and have them fix the WS

Dealers are useless most of the time... I assume the faulty part is the electronic vacuum control valve that controls the vacuum going to the turbo waste gate servo. Part number A0005450527, I have not figured out how to test it so I may just blindly replace it and hope it solves the problem, or does anybody have a better idea??

I dont know abot testing it, but so far what my WJ told me is wrong , was wrong. Maybe Marsian can help here?

ocean, have it replaced in any case. We had it with a GTI that the dump valve tested fine outside of the vehicle but did not work when fitted.

hi there the problem you have with your jeep could be one of the following
vacuum leak
wastegate solenoide
the ecu
ecu is most unlikely but vacuum leak very likely aswell as the solenoide,pull the vacuum pipe of that feeds the solenoide and suck on it does it suck easily or does it create a vacuum if it does then you vacuum hose from the solenoide to the waste gate might be perished if not replace the solenoide. there is a test procedures for all of this. I greated my own owners manuall in the last 10 years of being involved with jeep. every fault code has a test procedure and when narrowed down gets sorted out very quickly.

replaced the wastegate solenoid and guess what? THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE. running out of options apart from selling the jeep...
