Default TUFF Stuff Insurance (Option of Good Fellas would be nice)

Hi Guys,

I take it there is probably a lot of posts about Tuff Stuff Insurance.

I recently joined the Suzuki Owners Group, and according to them there is extra discount if I now take insurance with tuff stuff.

So I want to know... In your honest opinion, whom is the best person to speak to at tuff stuff, and any contact numbers perhaps?
(taken into account that I had the past two years a really bad luck with insurance?

22/02/2010 19h56
OK.. so I am now with tuff stuff.. very impressed with Ryan's service!

I have one more thing to ad that will be great on the Tuff Stuff Policy.... Good Fellas. When I was with Momentum insurance, I got membership for R20 a month with Good Fellas. This is great, as you do not need a designated driver when you go out for dinner / drinks / rugby etc...

Maybe Tuff Stuff can ad this option...

I must say:

Ryan gave me a call already 8h42 this morning. Also gave them an oppertunity to quote on my business... but, it will still be 2 different policies, 1 domestic, 1 comercial.

Holding thumbs... hope they can come in a bit cheaper than my current insurer.

When dealing with specialist insurance don't stop at the price, you have to compare the cover of a regular policy vs offroad cover.

You get what you pay for. with TS this rings TRUE.

my mishap two weeks ago, swambo said, yeah right the insurance is going cover that while you were mucking around at chimes. 6 days and money was in my account. actually it took only 4 as i was in Moz for 2 days.
they have no issue for me to repalce my plastic numper and bling bling nudge bar with a decent bumper, also repalcing the runner boards with decent rock sliders. (when i can finally get a set)

My advise would be GO FOR IT! especially if you are going to use your 4x4 for recreation.

Hi JNel,

Do yourself a favor, and have a look at Cross Country as well. I'm insured with them, I've unfortunately had to use them twice now...

1. My car was almost stolen. They had a flat bed truck at my house 30min later. My car was ready within 4 days, new locks (5 in total), new ignition, new locking mechanism on the steering wheel.

2. Had to replace my windscreen as a large stone hit mine, and made a huge crack all the way through.

Apart from my monthly premiums, I have yet to pay for anything I've claimed on. Always friendly, and things seem to be sorted out quickly. I was initially going to go with Tuff Stuff, but they were R200 per month more, and as far as I can see Cross Country give me the same cover off road.

JMHO

I received my letter from Ryan at Tuff Stuff last week stating that he will cover me for the Bridgestone Fundi Challenge!! Normally it was only Cross Country that will cover you for this event, and I was dreading to move away from Tuff Stuff to Cross Country.

After speaking to Ryan, he confirmed with a letter that he guarantee FULL cover for me for the Fundi - BRILLIANT!!

I can only take my hat of to him and Tuff Stuff, THANKS GUYS!!

I had them in mind too, but thought I will give tuff stuff a chance. Will see what they come back with, and make a decision from there.

Anyone specifically you dealing with at cross country?

I mailed Cross Country about 6-7 weeks ago for a quote (they advertised on this forum and I followed the link). To date I have had no reply - it must be going too well at their business?

ok... Ryan got back to me:

And I am mostly impressed!!!

Not sure if I am allowed to quote the premuim... so I will rather just mention that they are R400 less for 4x4 insurance than my current insurance which is only a standard policy...

On my business quote.. they are also R400 cheaper than Outsurance....

JNel, I think that you just got the answer for yourself. TS got back to you Immediately, CC has taken a bit longer. Who would you want to be sorting out things when a claim happens? Those that do it immediately, or those that take a bit longer?

In all fairness, from what I followed on this thread, CC was contacted only after TS, so them coming back after TS isn't really true. (In fact time from first call to quote may even be less?!).

I'd also be interested to know the differences. While on my first 4x4 trip this last weekend, my biggest fear was knowing I don't have 4x4 insurance, and how would I explain any 'accidents' here. Didn't stop me from pushing myself and my vehicle to it's max, but the thought was still there...

I'm keen to look into getting one of these too.

True: Tuff Stuff was contacted Thursday night, and CC Friday night. Tuff stuff called me early friday morning, and said he will send me a quote before day end or early Monday, well, got the quote early Monday.

CC mailed me this morning.. said they will send quote to me. I had to mail them again to ask if they need anymore info (address etc). They called me back, and did a telephone quote.

CC did not quote on:
Mountain bike
Camera
Venter and Accessories

CC's quote came in around R10 cheaper than Tuff Stuff, but that excludes allot of things... and that was for Private use.

With Tuff Stuff they quoted on all the above and insured my vehicle for business use at R10 more. CC was R250 more expensive if the vehicle was used for business, and that excluded all the other Items.

With CC I had to install a tracking system, and pay an extra installment of +- R100.

And I must say... it was so easy to get hold of Ryan today.... usually you never get hold of people at insurance companies

Summary:

I am not shooting down CC at all but... Ryan understood my claim history... never made any bad comments about it and understood that there is other insurers out there that are sharks.

CC did point out to me that because I am under 30, it does count against me... (thought 25 was always the threshold)

Good to know. I also have a history, although luckily my history is getting further and further away. Haven't really written off any more cars lately (Although technically it's easy to write off a car when it was bought cheap anyway).

And I was also under the impression the threshold was 25 - I was even told so by insurance companies... at least till I turned 25. Then they were like "So what? The threshold is 30." I think they're just increasing the threshold every time our generation meets it.

But TS does seem promising. And I only ever hear good things about them. There are always people coming in to mention CC, but I've never read any posts about people praising CC the way TS gets praised. Maybe I've just been missing the posts Feel free to send me any missed threads.

I feel a little bad about leaving my current insurer after only 4 months, but I think I'll feel worse when something happens offroad and they don't pay

Yeah.. seems like the "goal post" always get's moved.. he he. When we are 30, they will not jump in 5 years, but rather with 20 to 50.. that is probably the only time we can benifet again due to age..

Well, you feel bad with your 4months... I was with Momentum for 4 months, they quoted me R1000 more when I bought the black GV than what I was apying on the previous white SUV. So had to move to Iemas (A&G) to get a better monthly premuim. I am leaving them after 1 month... DON'T LIKE TO JUMP... but hey.. TS is better.

FOR INTERESTSAKE:
Going through the policy just now.. I see that Credit Shortfall is included in the policy.. this saves me another R200pm....

Default Good Fellas option on Tuff Stuff?

Edited Thread
22/02/2010 19h56
OK.. so I am now with tuff stuff.. very impressed with Ryan's service!

I have one more thing to ad that will be great on the Tuff Stuff Policy.... Good Fellas. When I was with Momentum insurance, I got membership for R20 a month with Good Fellas. This is great, as you do not need a designated driver when you go out for dinner / drinks / rugby etc...

Maybe Tuff Stuff can ad this option...

OK.. so I am now with tuff stuff.. very impressed with Ryan's service!

Dirk... seems like you know the setup / guys well at TS? Maybe we can have a poll on the forum and ask everyone that is with TS if they would like to have such a benifet? Think it can benifet a great % of us on here.. also enhances reponsible behaviour.

I am going to mention in anycase to Ryan tomorrow the Good Fellas service... maybe just maybe they will ad it.. I hope...

Who did you go with in the end?

I agree somewhat with insurers about not insuring younger drivers, but I would say apply that to under 22 year olds... at 22 most guys finished studying... started working and do the "more responsible thing"... (I think... he he)...

I see TS have no additional excess for younger drivers etc...

To be honest... going through the policy last night, I am impressed (think I said that before in this thread?.. will say it again.. and again.)

I've also contacted Ryan now... this thread inspired me

They've come back to match my current quote (assuming I never get my 'Bucks Back Bonus' - with my history, that may be a safe assumption).

Looking through the policy, I do get allot more cover that I currently have. I know most companies charge a bit extra for courtesy car etc...

One thing that I wasn't aware of - I've never had to pay a 'startup fee' before? Is this normal? It's only R150, and the benefits are still worth it, I just found it out of the norm...

Just on the under 25 thing - I think 4x4's are definitely a lower risk vehicle. Last year I was paying R1,450p/m on a 2008 Honda Civic Hatch. I agree though, that over 22 or so, you become responsible quickly... the only other exception then, and this makes sense obviously, is if you haven't had a license for 5 years. Before that, you're still in your learning phase... well, you never leave that phase, but theres less to learn now than before

The R150 is a new thing I have been noticing from a few insurers... so nothing to stress about...

So did you go with Tuff Stuff?.. or still deciding...?

I got the policy docs yesterday, but I haven't accepted yet.. I've had other 'issues' to deal with today...

Needless to say, I'm waiting to get my hardbody back, though looking at the time, I guess that's tomorrow.

I plan on signing and faxing through as soon as I can get to my office again.

I just got my increased premium docs from TS. They are still less than I was paying nearly two years ago at another insurer. I have not claimed yet on my policy (hopefully will not need to), but someone else mentioned they fact that TS was very understanding about your claims history. I had a similar experience with Schalk when I went to TS. When I mentioned that I had written off my car by drowning, he "laughed" and understood. He agreed that in my case it was better to keep the car on the road at it's age and value. I hope this will still apply if something ever happens as I like my old Hillbilly and will probably try take the cash again and fix myself if the situation had to repeat itself.

Yes.. these guys are not interogators like the other insurens I had to dela with previously.

I feel that Tuff Stuff values you as a human, and not a client. I had a query today with regards to moving my business to them, and Raymond (guess he is someone high up there).. called me personally and explained to me their point of view... not what I wanted to hear.. but honest, and to the point... I appreciate that!

Raymond is the MMWC (main man what counts) at TS. Great guy I have had the pleasure of having meeting at a supper at a Nissan 4x4 club get together one evening with Andre De Goede. Understands our needs as he is an off roader himself.

Yip, Raymond is the top guy and as you say JNel, he will be honest with you.

Also for those who are interested, and who might be swayed, TuffStuff is very much a GREEN company (probably the most environmetally conscious insurance company in SA at the moment) and Raymond has a range of environmental projects he is currently busy putting the finishing touches to, just watch the outdoor mags and this forum in the not too distant future!

Ryan from TS actually came to see us this afternnoon at 17h30, apparently it's after work hours. Very nice guy. We'll finalise the paperwork and sent it through to them next week, whilst canceling our currrent insurance. Hope all the good things heard and read keeps going for a long time. Good customer service is very rare these days and this is customer service so far....
