Question Landrover D3 Maintenance Plan Costs

Is ander eienaars soortgelyke bedrae gekwoteer?
Ek hoor graag wat ander Landrover eienaars dink.

I have been approached by my dealership that has quoted me on a McCarthy maintenance plan and is a lot cheaper - R27000. BUT and a big BUT, it is only supported by McCarthy LR dealerships AND you cannot claim for the first 10000km. So in effect the cost could be extrapolated to R41000!! And what happens if you break down in a town where there are no McCarthy LR dealerships?

Apparently Motorite underwrites the Land Rover maintenance plan and also offers a service plan as well. I am waiting to see this offer and what it covers.

Also, with the McCarthy one, they will often require work to be done by outside workshops etc and they will not necessarily use approved parts.

So bietjie handige inligting.

1. Landrover se verlengde vol plan @ R44k vooruit vir 2 jaar/40,000km (Motorite onderskryf)
2. Motorite se 'assuransie' Formula 16 @ so R11k vooruit vir 2 jaar. ( Lyk goed, maaar baie klagtes op Hellopeter)

Just my 2c...

Morning. I am busy looking at buying a new Defender 130. As there is no service or maintenance as standard I ask for some quotes. R55000 from Land Rover itself and R35 000 for a quote from Innovations. Both quotes are for a full maintenance plan for 5 years or 100 000km. Normal service is around R2500 and "bigger" services is around R4500 if I pay for the service myself. Probably no wear parts include. Tried getting a quote from Hollard but still waiting since Monday. Any other places that I can phone for quotes?

Hi Bosrot

There is: SA Warranties, Hollard, Innovations, Warranty Solutions, Motorite. Might be more?
Just make sure you dont get caught by these guys http://m.24.com/content/FullArticle....inance&ref=N97

As per my previous post I would suggest a proper warranty and just service at a reputable independant.

My personal preference being the Bumper to Bumper warranty with top up cover from SA Warranties. They cover consequential damage and wear and tear.

Good luck

Bosrot,

Can I ask why you would want to take out a maintenance plan on a Defender (especially for 55k). An oil change is R1700. Heaviest bill I have heard about is R6k for a major service including brake pads, and that will happen only once in the 100k period. Items that break are covered by waranty for 3 years. After that I'm off to the independants.

One of the reasons I chose the Defender was that I didn't want the maintenance plan, as I believe that these are a rip-off on basic vehicles.

I got a Motorite Formula 16 on my Disco3 for the next 2 years @ R11k. Had it on a previous Disco also and never had any issues with replacements. An average service costs about R2200 (not at the stealers) so do the calculations based on the amount of kms you drive, for the full two years. Compare that amount to the full 2 year maintenance plan to see which one is optimal.

I cannot say if its worth it.
Its actually 4 services @ R 44 000.00 , because it needs to be serviced every 6 mths or 7500km which ever comes first.

Anyway to maintain a Land Rover is dead cheap with the generic Land Rover parts importers in JHB and Dbn.

To do any work on the D3 is easy cause its all on the web, like www.disco3.uk from oil changes, brake pads , ect ect ect, with pics as well.
Every year you can take it back, to Land Rover , book it in and ask just for a computer check and system upgrade.Surely thatS not expensive.

The most expensive maintenance work on a D3 is the flushing of the gearbox , @ R 9000 00 at agents but can be done for a 3rd of the price DIY

I wil use the R 44 000.00 to add accesories, fuel, tyres , parts ect .

Couldnt agree more, Defender parts and maintenance are cheap and easy, there is so many info on the web, step by step.
Take R 55 000 and buy some nice accesories , like a fridge, long range tanks, roofracks ect ect
