Looking for good Land Rover mechanic in Cape Town
Does anyone know of a good independent mechanic/workshop in Cape Town where I can take my 1996 Disco TDi for a new power steering pump, new water pump, and some other work?
Priced the power steering pump (R4091,85) and water pump (R1163,94) at Land Rover Cape Town. Over R5000 just for the parts is a lot more than I was hoping to spend! Just need someone who can source good parts at a reasonable price, and, perhaps more importantly, does the job properly.

I am in Rosebank, so Paarden Eiland, Montague Gardens and Southern Suburbs suit me best. But prepared to travel further to get it done properly.

Try Willem (ex Roverland mechanic) now works for himself - Landy boffin - old school - he repairs things e.g. power steering pump - does not just replace - call him on 082 9736147 - you can PM me for workshop location co - ords !

Yes, used to take my Disco V8 to them. Had no issues with the service they gave me. Even offered to drop the vehicle off at my home after work for me.

LR SERVICE Centre in MG are excellent, owned by Mike Porter. They generally have a bit of a waiting list, but it's worth waiting. You could also try Garth in Little Mowbray, right around the corner from you, but I'm not sure he works on Discos, as he specialises in Series Land Rovers. His work is excellent as well.

Thanks Tony. Unfortunately LR Centre/Service in Montague Gardens is fully booked until 2 November! I need it done before then.
I haven't been able to get hold of Marius (Savannah) yet. Waiting for a reply to my PM.
Will try some of the others mentioned.

Sorry, Garth's numbers are 021 689-1965 and 072-264-3745. He does really good, clean work, photographs everything he works on and gives you the printouts with the invoice. As I said, his main passion is restoring Series Landys, but he did my last major service because I also couldn't wait for LR Services, and he did a great job.
PS you'll have to change your location to Cape Town in your id - you're still listed as Pretoria.

Garth is an excellent choice but he has stopped working on Disco's to concentrate on Series and Defender models. Give him a call if you are stuck - from my experience he will help you if you are seriously in a pickle - just the type of person he is and your Landy will love you for taking her to Garth.

there is also land rover service centre in Southfield/Diepriver, also a bit of a waiting list. used them once, no hassles
