Default Vehicle tracking

Hi all

I changed my insurance company which now requires a tracking system.

Any ideas, experiences, comparative tests?

RJ

I use Bandit, very happy with them, they phone me every time the car battery is diconnected (they can even tell me where the car is at the time) or when I get close to any of SA's borders. Fair monthly fees. They do a "Control Test" once a week, you are not even aware of it.

I was in the vehicle tracking / fleet management business for a number of years.

There are various types of tracking units, passive units which you'd need to call a response center to activate and active units which monitor permanently second by second via GPS. The latter is obviously the better unit, they also vary hugely in price so be careful.

I'd recommend Neo-trac SA purely due to quality, price and service. They a relatively new company in SA but are backed by most of the insurance vendors as far as I know.

If you'd like any more info, send me a PM and I'll gladly help.

Mike

Check out C- Track. Lowest cost active tracking system as far as I am aware. They self test the units, and you can use their info for SARS log books. They are approved by all insurers as far as I know.

I am one of the people that just want to satisfy the insurance (when i was still with Santam) so i installed a device that BMW motorrad installed in the bikes. Tracetech. The unit is not fitted in your electronics, its small, and cheep. The monthly fee is R69.00 and to me that is a bargain. I will fit this unit to my next cars. Just not it is a passive system (if your car is stolen, you need to call and inform them to look for your car)

I agree with RangeRover (not often that happens). Fit the cheapest one that your insurance will accept, with the shortest posible contract period - you never know when you need to sell the vehicle.

When you have a system installed in your vehicle must you disable it when your vehicle goes in for a service. These guys sometimes disconnects the battery.

My Outsurance suggested Tracker or Netstar. I still need to have it done but I think they are very expensive. Any ideas on this one as I think they get a kickback.

Malcolm
