Congrats & welcome to the club!!!!!!

Other than the vicious fuel consumption on mine, 2 things went wrong....

1. Fuel Sender Unit replaced under warranty (I couldn't get more than 50 litres of fuel in the 80 litre tank)
2. Rear CV joints & shocks replaced under warranty (clicking away as I pulled off in 4WD or Auto)

My brake pads don't last that long (about 15 000 k's a pair). Sandton Nissan skimmed the disks and replaced pads at half cost at the last service and are monitoring the usage (service to service) as this seems to be excessive.

Other than these small things, it's a fantastic vehicle (I wish I'd bought a diesel). It cruises well with SWAMBO, 4 kids & a ton's worth of trailer festooned with bikes behind as well as being easy to drive in town & the tiptronic box is a dream in traffic. (Not sure if you have a manual)

I had the following things fitted by Nissan when I purchased (Second Hand 40 000 Km's 14 Months ago)

1. Chromed Nudge bar (about R 4.5K)
2. Tow bar (About R 1.8K)

They also transplanted my 6" Warn's from my Landy onto the nudge bar.

Some things I would do differently:

1. Install an ARB or TJM bumper replacement bull bar (I'm a closet taxi bully)
2. Change the Good Year Wranglers to BFG's or Duellers (OK on anything unless it's wet sand)

All in all...... a fantastic vehicle. I've not been disappointed once.

Cheers

Richard

PS.....Make sure you are in neutral when you change to 4WD Low.......It doesn't disengage VDC if you aren't and it's just like having open diffs.

Hi There guys

Thanks so much for the replies, glad to hear this is a good car then !!!

I have the 6 speed manual box yes, and it is a Diesel, my consuption is actually very good. I get 8.5 liter / 100 km in town and between 6-7 l / 100 km on the open road at 110 - 120 km/h

One thing though ...

She seems to have a diesel knock between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm, from there it is quiet ??

When it is cold, it is loud, but as soon as the engine is warm it is MUCH softer but you can still hear it ( sounds like a tappet clicking ) but like I said, only between 1500 rpm and 2500 rpm, from there it is quiet ?

Dankie mense, lekker om deel te wees van 'n 4x4 club, en nie meer racing nie ;-)

we have the 2.5 AT! what an awesome trail van and family van! we fitted a nissan towbar for our off-road caravan. what a towing vehicle she has turned out to be also. fuel does get heavy but still better than some vans around!!!!

we also fitted camil suspension (front & rear) because we do a lot of off-roading and needed that a stiffer suspension when carrying a load. gave it an extra 40mm which does make a difference! also fitted an ARB bumper! the low nose-clearance make entry difficult and at times damaging!

But it has done it all. rocks, mud and desert sand! the torque and speed combimation leave many a toyota in our dust! yeah!!!!

Also a new and proud Pathfinder owner...had Nissans for the past 9 years but just upgraded from Navarra.
Awesome vehicle...no more backpain Cape Town to Bloem and then into Lesotho and down via the most amazing and scenic Sani Pass.
Even my gorgeous wife had a all-round smile !!!!!
Going to fit/install all those naughty nice things as we are going to be close for a long time.
Peace on Earth

Depending of the time of year (Recent rains ext) Sani is easily doable with a Pathfinder. The only problem will be ground clearance, but only at one or two points and with carefull (slow) driving it won't be a problem.
(I had a Pathfinder as a company vehicle a while back)
I did it about 4 months ago when my Jeep was still dead standard.
It is definitely worth the trip.

PS. If you call Sani Pass Hotel they will be able to give you an idea of the condition of the pass. (Also a great place for lunch or to stay over)
