Default Fortuner Resale Value

We frequently hear about the apparent good resale values on Toyotas - this "fact" sometimes being contested by some.I have just sold my 2007 Fortuner 4x4 V6 4litre (manual) for R 225 000. It is a private transaction. The selling price I got means that I got back 67% of its original purchase price of R 336 000. I think the "trade-in" value is something like R 179 000 which means I got R 46 000 above "book"(?). The best deal I could get from a (Toyota) dealer was R 195 000 for a trade-in on an FJ (which means 58% back on the original purchase price). Thought I'd share this info with you...

Interesting.

You do not mention your milage.

Vehicle is 5 years old.

You got 67% trade in offer was 58%.

Yours was the original shape, there have been two face-lifts since.

I assume the V6 4.0's resale would be lower than a Diesel?

I think you did very well.

Manny I completely agree.. Toyota has (Especially 'tunas) have exellent resale value. Compare the depreciation of any other car like the Navara or Ranger and the Toyota's have a 15%-20% better resale value.

To illustrate, my father bought a Fortuner D-4D in 2008 and drove it for less than a year and only had 60k km on.. He sold it for only R 20 000 less due to the popularity and at the time the 3 month waiting list. I myself bought a Fortuner VNT 2.5 in February this year for R 355 000 ( few extras added). In April the dealership phoned me and asked if I was willing to sell, for EXACTLY what I paid for in Feb ( 3 months later with 15k on the odo). They said demand was so ridiculous they couldnt keep up with demand..

Fact is, Fortuner and Hilux's depreciate the least of ANY vehicle on the market today, something a friend of mine confimed who works at PWC as a risk assessment analyst for logistics companies. Thats why so many comapnies use base Hilux models for their fleets..

No one wants a gas-guzzler...

BTW, I checked out 2007 Jeep Wrangler asking (not sold) prices on AutoTrader - similar resale values to the Fortuner...
Interesting.

Let me go check on PradoSports (see if the two sold are for sale)...

When I buy a high milage 5 year old car, I would rather buy petrol than diesel, but maybe its just me.

Default Fortuner Resale Value

O.K. the Pajero Sport was only launched in late 2009.
Found one on AutoTrader, 2009 model.
He paid R410 000.00 - R420 000.00
He's asking R250 000.00
So, 3 years old & he's hoping for 60%....

I'm actually surprised, the Paj Sport is a damn good vehicle, there are few to find, yet this seller is only
expecting 60% of initial outlay.

Even if he got it for R400k with a discount, that's still only 62.5%...

Skimmie, I agree, but the values are always lower - check it out...

Look on Auto Trader for example, there are plenty of V6s available, yet very few diesel 4x4's.

Supply and demand, hence the diesel's better re-sale value, was told for every 10 Fortuners and Hilux's sold, 8 will be diesel. Buyers don't seem to be put off by high mileage diesels due to their reliability proved so far. The d4d must be one of the better, if not best diesel motor out there today.

Manny - kilos on the clock 47 000kms. I have used up all the free services but it means the car was serviced on average every 9000kms. (Service interval = 15 000kms).

I advertised it only on the Hilux 4x4 forum. I did not make any effort to get more than the 225K I got - that was what it was advertised for. Vehicle was never off-road. Buyer did not even bothered to come and look at the vehicle - he bought it on good faith but I must add he knows me and how I look after my vehicles.

The Toyota guys told me that the diesel (pro rata) fetches higher prices than the petrol mainly as a result of the higher demand for diesels.(remember contrary to other makes the Toy petrol initially costs more than the diesels). I think if I had the time (and marketing effort) I could get R 240 000 for that specific vehicle since it is basically still in new condition.

Another thing - there was absolutely NO niggles on this vehicle over the 5 year + period of ownership - I only put in petrol. It is still on the original Grabbers and shocks - Grabbers (all 4 of them have 50% life left - 4mm vs. the spare brand new tyre's 8mm grip).

So you're proving that Toyota has good resale?
I thought that went without saying...

Using motoronline.co.za to compare 2007 models of
..............Fortuner 4.0 V6 Man ...Grand Cherokee 5.7 V8 ...Pajero 3.2 Di-DC GLX
Original ........350,500 .........................473,900 ............................393,000
Trade ..........175,700 .........................179,300 .............................178,000
Retail ..........198,800 .........................213,100 .............................204,900

That's why I always buy my Jeeps 2nd hand ... but can never afford to sell them

Well - I am planning to sell my 1986 SFA Hilux DC for not less than R 70 000 - I think it costed not more than R 32 000 at the time (Already have the same buyer who bought the Fortuner interested).

But again - Toyota mechanics who serviced that car told me it is in better condition than most of the 1998 models they work on

Interesting to see the drop in Pajero values since they've been dropped by MBSA.
