Default Taking up sky diving

Hi all,

Don't know if anyone even reads this section any more...but here goes nothing.

I did a tandem jump about 2 years ago and loved it. I now have a bit more money and am considering taking sky diving up as a sport. I was looking at the AFF course, not the static line.

Anyone got any advice? Or know anyone?

Basically just fishing for information.

Thanks,
Warren

My son is into it (his broken limbs testify to that!)

He's at Pretoria Skydiving Club

Howzit Wazzy,

I skydived for many years. AFF will cost more than static but if you have the bucks then its fine. Sure you know what both is all about. Best person to speak to is Manny at http://www.icarus.co.za/ You can mention that you got his details from Erich.

Hey Wazzy,

I am a skydiving instructor at Wonderboom in Pretoria.

AFF is for sure the way to go! Static line is outdated and takes longer to achieve a desired level of skill.

AFF is all about one on one instruction and learning in a safe, fast and efficient way.

The whole course should work out at about R9 500. If you have a look at http://www.para.co.za/ it will give you a list of registered skydiving clubs and qualified instructors.

The guys in KZN is at Cato Ridge. Last I heard they had issues with getting hold of aircraft and instructors. I would almost recommend you making a pilgrimage up to Gauteng and we'll pretty much get you sorted in a couple of weekends. have a look at www.tandemadventures.co.za and www.iloveskydiving.co.za

FYI: Manny from Icarus does not own a skydiving club, nor does he skydive any more. He still own a "school" in Edenvale, but makes use of instructors at different clubs. He will typically send you to Nylstroom (Who has no aircraft at the moment) or Witbank. You'll do better, price wise, to simply contact the clubs directly.

My humble personal opinion is that it is against nature to jump from any perfectly working structure, bridge or aircraft.

Thanks for all the information so far guys. Sadly I don't think Gauteng is an option. Durban it will have to be. Time to make some phone calls.

Default Sky diving

Been there done that, why jump out of a perfectly serviceable aeroplane to do nothing, as I said been there, done that.
If you have the bucks rather do scuba, MUCH BETTER, MORE EXCITEMENT, and no instructor attitude (think they're God's gift to freefalling mankind) ( Altitude ) problems (except after diving)!
