Default Chip on 5.7L Hemi??

Hi guys,

Any owners of 5.7L Hemi's out there that chipped them? Want to know if it's worth the money for the power increase? Any consumption improvement?

Thanks

i was told not to do it waste of money, so i am doing a exhaust conversion now see how that turns out, at least it will sound like a proper v8.

Fventer- how did you get rid of the O2 sensors and the cat without the error code remaining?

If you don't mind me asking- what exactly is your consumption? At best i mean, not average...

Well, as far as I understand the Petrol Power chip can be used on almost any engine. It takes 100km to "learn" the most efficient map. There's no reason why it shouldn't work- it's the same principal. They told me to expect a 10% economy increase and same for power. As I have only ever driven it with the chip in, I won't know the difference it actually makes...

Johan your GC is still under warranty ? Will these mods, re exhaust, chipping etc not have a detrimental effect on the warranty ? I guess the chip, if it was just a plug in could be plugged out before going to the stealers, but what about exhaust ?

That's why I want to find out. I suppose that if it is a Mopar system of some sorts, it probably wont have a effect on the guarantee. I am not interested in chipping.

Arrie, who fitted your superchip and freeflow exhaust?

Are the cats removed from your Commander's exhaust? If so, does the superchip take care of the MIL, preventing it from lighting up?

I am getting about 15.8 L/100 on the highway doing 120 km/h. Now with 4" lift and 33 " tires that is not bad.

Cats where removed abd foolers fitted, but I am getting O2 sensor Lean error code. We are now going to build something to fool the ECU eaven more. Will keep you up to date.

Thanks arrie I am watching closely! P0430 keeps cropping up for me so my cat is also close to the end. Wanna get rid of them. That is pretty good consumption considering the mod. Worth it for the clearance and ability I am sure!

Just remember a good after market cold air intake will also give you very good fuel consumsion.

Everything was done by Mark at Maniac4x4. The superchip you can get local from Mark or the mudshop or Andew at zone. Or as I did straight from Quadratec over the internet. The chip plugs in then you do the programming and un plug it again. www.superchip.com

Default Cold air intake

Hi Arrie,
I have been following the vids on you tube on your Commander and have also just bought a white one. What cold air intake system are you referring to? Is that something like the air- raid or is it it a Flat K & N filter as advised by SAC?
I am getting around 22 -23 l/100km and not much better at 110 km per hour even on the highway? Full tank gets around 320 km? Also have obtained quote from maniac for the lift and bumpers. Mine is a 2009 model and used as a daily commuter as I do low mileage.

Really would appreciate your feedback and by the way your commander is a machine and sounds awesome.

Default Unichip

I have a Unichip installed on mine....or rather I think there is a Unichip installed?
I have a Unichip sticker on the back, but since I bought the vehicle secondhand on do not know who fitted it, it could also just be a sticker?

My MDS is definately not coming on? so I'm sure the chip "overrides" this function?

How would one uninstall such a chip?

I know this post is a bit old...but I only recently started thinking about a few mods on my Hemi.
I currently have a Cowley silencer in the place of the big centre silencer, much smaller than stock. Already I have a nice sound, deep but not too loud!
Then the rear silencer is still in place(stock).
What I would really like is something like that on the new WK2, where you have 2 pipes coming out the back with nice tips! (see pics)
Wonder if this is possible with the WK?
Where would one move the sparewheel to?

Put the sparewheel on a swingarm. You can then add a long range tank as well.

Hi guys

Bought a Jeep GC 5.7 Hemi recently. I am getting around 27L/100km, but is suspecting that there is something wrong with the sensor on air intake. Reason being that there is a strong fuel smell when parking in garage after a drive.

Vehicle is going to Mark on the 18th to have it looked at, also doing the decat and exhaust to bring the beast out. I will have to speak to him about that chip

Something seriously wrong there, I don't get close to that, even towing a 1.6 ton caravan at 120kpu.

Agreed, the worst I ever got was about 23l/100km and that was playing in the sand the whole day and towing my trailer.

Thank you
I was reading up a lot on the forum before I bought the vehicle and figured that is a bit rough compared to what other members is getting. I hope it can be sorted quickly as I am looking forward to testing it in the dunes.

I saw the video of Arrie's Commander and I was sold on the 5.7

Will update on the fault and hopefully the improvement with the few mods planned for when I get back home.

Chipping a NA engine is a waste IMHO. Rather spend the money on intake and exhaust mods.

Agree, rather get a freeflow, remove cats and get a cold air intake.

Jeep Fan, where did you get the swing arm, do you have plans/ measurements for it and could you possibly post a few detailed photos of it.

It was done by Maniac 4x4 in Cape Town. You can contact Mark. I have no plans but it is build on the rear bumper.
