Hope not too many people here have Hummers ? GM has just announced it's closing.

Gotta love the headline on Fark.com today:

"Like your wife, GM to stop offering Hummers."

Default Hummer sold?

GM sold Hummer to a Chinese industrial company a while ago. Now it appears the Chinese Gov may not approve the deal. I think Hummer will just die a slow death in the USA.

Chinese / USA relations are not hot at the moment.

If I owned a Hummer now, I would go out and buy the expected service spares whilst it is still available. When Hummer dies, the parts prices will rocket.

Default Hummer finished

I have just heard on 702 that the Hummer deal with the Chinese company has fallen through and GM have announced that the Hummer is done.

They will honour warrenties and services but that's it for Hummer, no more.

Surely the Hummer, being a military vehicle can't really die? I mean surely the military will continue producing the military spec, untill one day some rapper in the USA wants to buy a 'luxury' military ride again...

No, it's pretty dead.

Quote:
It’s with great sadness that I report to you that Pentagon Comptroller Robert Hale just said at his briefing that 2010 would be the last year that the Pentagon would buy the venerable High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle.
Budget documents released today show that the the Pentagon is devoting about $1 million to replace war losses of Humvees, but will buy none over and above the current numbers. The Pentagon budgeted for about 8,000 Humvees in FY 2010 to the tune of $1.3 million.
We’ll likely get more info on how serious the Army is about the JLTV, the Humvee’s replacement, at the Army breakout in a few minutes. But it’s just gigantic that the newest budget zeros out funds for the Humvee. Since about 1985, the Humvee has served very well in a variety of roles both as its originally intended support vehicle role and as a no joke combat vehicle in Iraq and Afghanistan. About 100,000 have been produced in various configurations for the US military.
I’ve logged many hours in Humvees of various configurations and I had to good fortune to travel to Mishawaka, Ind., and South Bend, to see the production facility and drive the AM General test track in an uparmored Humvee. I’m psyched about the possibilities of the JLTV and feel that it’s high time we moved away from the Humvee, but I’ll look back with great affection at that cramped, dusty, bumpy, creaky, stinky, hot, bull-dog-tough truck.
UPDATE: Army budget officials Lt. Gen. Adgar Stanton said at the breakout that “we reached the end of the line with the Humvee a sooner than we expected.” Fewer losses in Iraq and Afghanistan and the introduction of the M-ATV makes for “fewer uses for the Humvee.”

That $162.50 each.
I'll take 5 thanks!

Hummer has been phased out by the US Military for awhile now...the V8's we getting here are OLD as GM stopped building the H3 a LONG time again.....I laughed when I saw the ad for the "new" V8.....

Listen, it's a nice vehicle but like the SEAT...you stuck with it.....

They been trying to sell Hummer since 2008, and with official announcement last week that Hummer is being phased out I think it is pretty much a done deal.

It shouldn't, although you never know in SA. The H3 shares everything except body panels with the Chev Colorado and GMC Canyon so parts shouldn't be big issue. Problem is though that both above are being redesigned for 2012 so might become problem in next couple of years.

True, but keep in mind though that Hummer does not supply the military humvees, different companies.

And in other news...
You can buy a H3 for some BIG bargains at the moment, especially used. Saw a 2008 Adventure model with 20K miles for $16K, and they got some room for negotiation

Ye but here in SA, you find a few Hummer owners forget they drive H3 not H1's and thus think they Arnold Swazzi...and thus believe they are INDUSTRUCTABLE...LMAO...I have a neighbour who drives an H3 and a overweight HD with all the bells and tassels...and some weekends he takes a ride, no helmet and cigar I kid you not down the street up and down...so in SA...Hummer H3 is PURE IMAGE...if you see how they are build and how much PLASTIC goes into the EXTERNAL make up then you'd understand why the Chinese looked at buying the brand...hell even the CHROME fake intake vents on the bonnet is PLASTIC...LMAO..so good riddance H3.

I have to let you guys know that the Hummer is an awsome 4x4. We've just come back from the Karredouw-Dooringkloof trail and it was a breeze. My wife and I have done numerous trails now, one or two graded as 4 and it has been an absalute pleasure.
I have been on trails with Landy's, Fortuners etc. who have struggled when we've had no problems at all.
If I were to loose my Hummer for any reason right now I would go out and purchase another Hummer without hesitation.
There have also been no problems at all from GM regarding services etc.
