Default As julle vir my lag...........

Stupidity reigns.....
This happened yesterday at Groenkloof. See what happens when trying to impress your wife and kids.

I did make some serious mistakes, and admit to them like a man. I did not check the depth of the muddy waters, my second mistake was not checking that my 4x4 engaged before storming into this. As I only found out while in the water, the rear right wheel does not turn at all while in 4x4, so I need to get this seen to.

Two chaps from the mountain biking fraternity did stop to assist, after the giggling stopped, their help was appreciated.

Being an absolute novice, there are a couple of things that got me, the park charges R350 for a recovery, but sends a ranger with an old, well used rope who promptly wanted to pull me out by the towbar of both vehicles, this scared me a tad and after some deliberation with the ranger and the bikers, we did end up using the recovery points. I would have thought that these guys would be prepared for p@epholle like me?

Thanks to the two "gatsaag' operators, I would definitely buy you guys a cold one if I could get into contact with you guys.

Now stop laughing!

Hehe!

LOL, next time engage 4WD when you enter the trail...
and don't go driving trails alone, rather post here and let a couple of guys meet up, then you don't have to pay the park recovery fee...
but so you learn :-)

I believe I am one of the very few people reading this thread (or on the Forum, even) who can say truthfully that I have never, ever got stuck so that I needed someone to recover me.
But then again, I have never done any 4x4 off-roading either

Lewies, jy probeer duidelik nie hard genoeg nie!

Unless you have a diff lock, tc or LS diff this could be normal. If the left rear wheel have no traction and can rotate freely, the right wheel will not rotate.

Thanks for the info. I have nothing on a Terracan. Just curious - on a Terracan LSD - do you how much slip before engaging?

Ja wel so leer 'n mens!! Volgende keer sal jy nou weet.

Jy moes my maar gebel het, ek sou jou for free kom recover het!! Ek bly baie naby aan Groenkloof.

Ooooooh and theunsB, you are so right about that......But it happens.

That water looks drinkable compared to what I had to swim through on Sunday.

Die Terracan se LSD beteken niks. As jy sit, dan sit jy.

Oh, and if you don't get stuck...you're not trying hard enough...! Getting stuck is the only way you can learn the limits of yourself and of your vehicle. I would rather get stuck and learn what to do and what not to do than rather than never getting stuck and not knowing the limits and having a major mishap one day...

Remember that LSD is there for normal use, if you don't engage your 4x4 H or L then lsd will act as normally turning a corner with less slip or skid. Diff Oil is not going to perfect your drivin style but merely protect your LSD. I feel as you said (and I laughted (cause I made similar mistake) Make sure you are ready to tackle an obstacle before entry, check all your fuctions, dont enter if not sure. I have taken out my LSD and replaced with Front and rear ARB lockers. Now I can make wheel spins and nutties without LSD, he,heee, FUN. Note, everyone has stories, you'res is real, learn from your mishaps, we all do, and so we grow as a family. Good luck in the future. ps tip, take your overdrive off prior to obstacle, also listen to what what said about the handbrake trick, it works.... for LSD

Thanks Morton, Methinks the time is ripe for a decent 4x4 course before my friends (read: Gary110!) giggles at me again. And you're right so one learns, especially how not to.........
