Default Anton Matthee - RIP

It was with great, great sadness that I learned late last night that Anton was on board the plane that crashed yesterday. My sincere condolences to Ilse and the kids. Anton will be sadly missed by all, especially the 4x4 fraternity. Rest in peace, my friend!

Condolences to the family.

Here's a clip of Anton recovering a Scania truck in Zambia. This was around 2005 and it was all over the forums at the time.

Hi Uys,

Anton was a well known overlander and presenter of the Overland Challenge 2005/2006. He was also the guy in the (legendary)video clip where a the 60 ton truck is recovered with a (80 series?) Cruiser. I personally learnt a hell of a lot from him about 4x4 driving, recovering (snatching with normal tow ropes and two old tyre casings etc.) and overlanding. He was extremely knowledgable on nature and concervation and was also a paint artist in his own right and was the nephew of well known writer, Daleen Matthee. Regarded by many who knew him as a off-road legend in his own time.
