HAVE LAND ROVER WILL TRAVEL

LIFE IS SHORT , LIVE IT!!!!!

In my case too , it's the fuel bill, and so many places to go.

HEELPAD GRONDPAD.

It definitely doesn't cost me a lot to maintain my D3.

Yip my wallet gets emptied by the adventures my Landy takes me on. I travel the "scenic" routes even though it takes longer to get to my destination, I get lost, get stuck, my family & friends dont understand coz its a Landy thing and in my blood.

Life is short so live it and enjoy your Land Rover.

It's not the Land Rover bankrupting you . Its the dreaded bug .
It's called 4x4ing . Once the 4x4 bug had bitten you , youre a gonner !
Since there's no stopping to the madness - you might just as well do it proper - in a LAND ROVER !

Love mine, and wouldn't swop it for anything, except perhaps a 130 Double Cab, but it's cost me just on 10K this month alone, excluding fuel.

New crankshaft pulley, new turbo, and a few other bits and pieces.

Just to add another warning. I saw a comment about a very cheaply priced Disco 3 on Gumtree and decided to respond. This is the reply:
Hello,

The price is correct.

The car is in the best condition, has no technical damage,no accident, full service history. The car is registered in South Africa. I have worked in South Africa for one year and I've purchased the car there. Company transport delivered the car back home, so currently I'm in England (United Kingdom). The car it's now located in ENGLAND - United Kingdom. I will pay fees delivery.

Please write me back to discuss only if you are interested!

Thanks,
David

Do people actually fall for this kind of scam? It is amazing. The price was R125000 odd. with a photo
Anyway, just another "beware" post.
Sorry, not trying to hi-jack, just add some interesting info.

I pretty much knew I'd be skint very soon with a Landy, but what's the alternative?
Golf clubs ain't cheap.
Outboards ain't cheap.
Sports cars ain't cheap.
If I didn't spend it on the Landy, the Doris woulda spent it on herself anyway!
No-brainer, really!

It is not cheep to maintain a Land Rover!
In the rear future mine will be up for sale. (Will keep one Landy)
Just spend best part of the day to pamper the “White Lady”
Now the question is with what do I replace the Landy

Nico,

I actually beg to differ. I have changed the front diff and the reconned the centre diff on one of my defenders and it cost me ~R3500 for everything. Granted I did it myself... Rebuild on an engine maybe 45000 on a td5 depending on what is wrong. Rebuilt on a D4d probably the same if not more. Service costs on a D3 is comparable to a small sedan.

The biggest problem with landies is the scarcity of good knowledgeable technicians.

You will notice I mention techs and not mechanics. Most mechanics nowadays are NPF's (new part fitters) which is where a large proportion of the costs are creeping in. Parts are getting more expensive because the NPF's are pushing up demand. I don't think this is an exclusive Landy problem though.

Heck I don't think this problem is related only to the motor industry either. Mining costs are rising due to the artisans not being able to do basic repairs. We need contractors to do everything. MOST OF HE GOOD PEOPLE MOVE TO THE CONTRACTORS...

RANT OVER.
