Default Theft Hilux/Fortuner and TJM/ARB bumpers

    Hi,

There was a lot about theft of Hilux/Fortuners near end last year. The thieves disconnected horns etc by prying open bonnet.
Toyota introduced security horn covers and ECU covers.

However what are the risks with an after market bumper fitted? Surely the underside and wiring of the front of vehicle is a lot more accesible with a bar fitted? Under the TJM bar there are no plates to the side of the vehicle that the ARB has. But do they even make a difference?

    Comments would be appreciated.

It is very difficult to get to the alarm horn wiring from underneath the car, that's why the thieves bend open the bonnet.

However, the alarm horn will not stop a determined thief. If your car is in a vulnerable spot, they will break it open and take it no matter what bumper you have fitted. Trackers are meaningless, they will just rip open the dash to find it. Bottom line, don't leave your vehicle where it is vulnerable. If you have to, make peace with the fact that it could be stolen and make sure your insurance is paid up.

What you mean rip open the dash to find tracker? They dont know where the tracker is stored? Or are they always connected somewhere in dash?
But if tracker and alarm dont work what about a gear lock? I dont think they can get past a decent gear lock.
These 4x4 specialised insurance companies - do they cover you for the extras you have added to vehicle?

Think again. It's not whether they find the tracker or not, its the damage they do to the vehicle in the process of trying to find it.

Look at this thread to see some pics.

I know for a fact my tracker is not near the dash. Therefore it can be anywhere.

A dealer installed these plates on my FT last week. I removed the ECU cover/plate in under 2 min!!! So thats no good!

The dealer was supposed to use an epoxy in the screws heads to prevent removal after the installation. I suppose if you use enough force, you can remove the ECU plate with a pair of sidecutters or something similar even if the screw heads were epoxied.

These cover plates will not deter the serious thief, I agree. They should just slow them down enough so they go looking for an easier one to steal.

Looking at that thread, I'm amazed that MORE vehicles aren't stolen! How hard can it be do get hold of an ECU and Computer for the vehicle, and then all you need to do is unplug the wires from existing and plug into yours, complete with it's own separate ignition. Alarm may go off in the beginning, to get to it all, but after you've plugged in and immobilised with your immobiliser (matched to your computer), you have the keys!

We need to give the boys a heads up on this one. Here in Cape Town the thieves have started same story and Hilux and Fortuner owners are blissfully unaware.
It started in the north so how did the boys resolve the issue or are they still being stolen frequently?

I would like to know why Toyota SA is not doing the responsible thing since they have a recall on all 2011 models to fit the security bracket over the alarm siren etc., and fit this to all Fortuners?

This is a stupid design fault which they have been aware of for more than 2 years and only now do they react, but not to the benefit of all Fortuner supporters.

Mmmhhh perhaps the " stealers" nickname is deserving as they charge R500 to fit this small steel plate.

I was told that you can also move the siren to another location which could even be a better solution. Any comments?

Time to remove Tracking is around 15minutes. That is what insider at Tracking Company told me.

I had a truck stolen, tracking lost signal in 8minutes. Yes, 8 minutes. Truck still gone until today...........

Had Tracetech units fitted also now. They are my back up units if I do get hit with anither 8 minute job. It aint that hot, but at least that you can fit anywhere you want!! No wires.

    Default Gesteelde Dubbel kajuit

Hopelik help dit so bietjie.

Die een foto wys waar die sirene eers was, hy is nou geskuif maar is bietjie moeilik sigbaar op die foto.

You can install what you want They will just hijack you , My wife has three clients all with fortuners , They all have been followed from our house the moment they exit our complex ,

The one lady realised she was followed and drove all the way to sandton while having her husband on the phone , when she entered he's work they drove past and showed their guns to her , doing the slit throat move , This was the 3rd attempt three different cars same woman , The selling that fortuner ASAP.

They tried to steal my dads Hilux three times already , every time he was lucky enough to desturb them.
