Ukranian tourist ..... unsafe towball recovery ? Why do you say so just by looking at a pict ? Or is ALL towball recoveries deemed as unsafe ?

As a general rule, yes. All towball recoveries should be considered unsafe- and that looks like a kinetic rope too! Dis moeilikheid soek.

Bartho, I do not profess to know dune recoveries anywhere near as much as you. Yet, I do know enough to know that recovery is going to take more than a pull. That calls for a snatch recovery. And, that being a kinetic rope, spells danger.

We've had a Disco 1 try a snatch on a SerIII Landy where the tow bar drop plate tore out, and struck the D1 on the top part of the tailgate door. Took out the roof and rear door on the Disco. Both had to be replaced! If that drop plate was 6" lower, we would have had my SIL in hospital... if she was lucky.

    I consider that recovery unsafe.

Would agree totally with abovesaid but fortuner could not get traction to even start to really put tension into strap. After this picture they sweated a bit and dug it out properly and a vast walking pace pull recovered it 😊
