fuel consumption should not be an issue when buying a V8 but it should be better than the older ones...

if my wife drives it.....pretty good 18l/100km (6km/l) in town.
if I drive it ..... well, letts just not go there.

a comparison between the TDV6 and V8 HSE.....the same salesmanager of Premium Select drove both down from Durban to Cape Town.....travelling at 140-160 most of the way with speedo cruise mst way and climate control etc. ON.
Average consumption over the whole trip:
    TDV6-15,5L/100km and V8 HSE-15.8L/100km.
    ....thats a 300ml difference per 100km.

If you like the loud pedal and 4.4l jaguar power....you gonna pay!!

    Disco 3 wee-uit.....looking for 18".
    Defender 110 wee-uit......wiff tyres.

I'll take the figures the salesmanager got with a good helping of salt. I have a Disco 3 TD and mine will get much better consumption than that!

    Awie,

You are most likely spot on about the sales manager...
I'm happy to hear the TD is better than that !
What do you average around town and when 'slatting the lang pad' ?

Sure it would at least be same if not better than I get in the RR, I've got the BMW engine and not the Jaguar but far as I know consumption is roughly same.

    City/off road: 5-7km/l
    Highway: 8-9km/l (120-140km/h max)

Heavy offroading sees it going down to around 3-4km/l and highway speeds over 140km/h also drops around 2km/l.

    Aplologies for the belated reply!

Openroad cruising @120km/h sees my consumption at between 9.0 and 9.8l/100km depending on load and aircon usage. Recently I was part of a convoy doing 100km/h over about 200km on tar and my consumption went down to 8.7l/100km!

In town I average about 10.5l/100km if I tread lightly. A friend of mine with a Disco 3 V8 averages about 16l/100km.

We once did a roundtrip of about 450km where I averaged 9.6 and he got 13.8.

i would commit hare kiri! a centurion tank is lighter on fuel! where were you driving? sand?
the worst i ever got with a V8 heavy offroad was 4.5 km/l and that compares well with around 5.5 around town.

D1 is still the best vehicle I have ever driven. Owned alot of Jap vehicles one was very thirsty and over rated, would get another D1 any day. Comfort and value for money, ditch the EFI and fit SU's on the D1's. The 3.9 can use SU's up to 4500 rpm's. I got 7k's per L on the open road. Very reliable and comfortable.

I am so tempted, I just worry about the fuel, but in saying that I mainly ride the bike to work. I am drooling over this car.
