It looks realy nice so far. How much did the engine rebuild cost, not including your late night hours of labour of course?

Hope you can start to enjoy your baba VERY soon.!

    Car cost me R25'000

I haven't tallied everything yet. Here is an early breakdown that excludes fluids, filters, cloths, wiring, lugs, tools etc

After the rebuild ( with tyres and shocks ) the total cost will be about R50'000 - a bargain in my opinion as the engine will be new and I'll know the car inside out. It is also a cash build so everything I have done so far was done with cash - including the initial vehicle purchase.

4ePajero sponsored the radiator re-core. Thanks again dad.

I'm disregarding the labour as a learning curve - not to mention I enjoy it - and the knowledge gained in case of a breakdown is priceless.

So do I as the Jetta has a sump leak again that needs fixing

Maybe next year I'll start looking at a trailer as I just got 4 matching rims ( still need to go fetch them but it's difficult with my knee ) to put on the trailer.

With just about everything bolted on, I am proud to say I don't have any bolts lying around needing a home.

All buttoned up but I can't start it as I'm missing the dipstick. I'm hoping it's at the workshop.

On the other hand my knee is just about back to normal. I couldn't walk this morning and now I barely have a limp. weird....

And I did connect the loose ground ( can you spot it ? )- before you ask

btw. when I start it tomorrow, what should the electrical advance be?

    5 degrees btdc at idle?

Do i need to plug or bridge a connector before checking?

Must say, I admire your dedication and passion for what you have done.
Trust me, you will appreciate your baby so much once she is going.
At 17, my dad helped me build up a 1979 Mini Clubman. I loved that car so much and felt so attached to it for years!

    What does the manual say?

5 degrees ( +-2 ) but I'm unsure whether that is under standard idle conditions or whether I need to bridge a diagnostic ( like with the idle speed setting with the mut tool ) . The manual is not specific towards this.

Obviously you were not spoon fed by your old man. Also a good way of saying I do not know !!!

And before we ask, what is the ladies name?

He laid good foundations. Spoon feeding is then not required.

Mooi man...Maar daai pajeros is toe nie sooo dors nie..ha ha..
Myne kry so tussen 7.8 en 9.1. Hang af hoe swaar ek op die voet is, en hoe gelaai sy is/ trailor of ni. Ek dink dis nie Bad vir 'n 3L V6 van daardie gewig en "airodynamics" van 'n baksteen nie..ha ha

So wanneer hoor ons hoe klink hy? Sit 'n video clip op You tube of iets.
