    Default Cheetah chase in Kgalagadi

On a 4 week trip through Southern Africa, our last stop was the beautiful Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, looking as green as we have ever seen.
On the Auob River bed, between Mata Mata and Twee Rivieren, we tracked a cheetah with her cub for two and a half hours before my wife, Jan, captured the amazing shot.
If you look very carefully you can spot the cub directly above the Mom coming down the hill.

I have never witnessed this before and it all happened so fast it was unbelievable - my friends thought a Springbuck was going to jump through the Land Rover window!

    Excellent! Pin sharp!

    Do share your equipment used.

Do you have any more pics from your Kgalagadi trip?

Thanks for the nice comments -
Yip we have plently of pics - I will post some of her before the chase and the kill happened about 30m from us. But with the dust and bedlam we did not see her take down the Springbuck. Only waliking with it in her mouth.
I truly believed that she had started the chase far too early, but I think the buck (who were lying down) spotted her moving down hill so off she went.
The cub got lost during the hunt, and after resting up for 10 min (my word was she tired!) she started tearing open the stomach while calling her cub.

The two ladies in the car were convinced a crazy driver who raced past us had hit the cub, but on driving back about 70m we found it - making chirping calls (never heard it before), and suddenly it heard Momma and took off towards the kill!

The funny thing is I'm the professional photographer and Jan shoots for fun - I photographed the dust and some bucks heads, and she took two brilliant shots - I will post the second one, as you can see the cheetah has earmarked her kill, and changed direction

    Hi Paul,
I use a Canon 6D with a 300mm 2.8 and 1.4 extender - I would have been better off with the 100-400 zoom to be honest!
Jan has a Canon 760D with a 75-300mm lens - the grey one - so that pic is pretty large even though it is a jpeg.
Luckily I can buy the equipment for the studio - makes it much easier and cheaper.
