Where white rum the one that doesn't say Coca Cola on the side of the bottle - cheaper.

If it is dark rum use hot tea. Very nice

Its only been 8 years..... but HELL it seems SA has become very expensive.
Here in Kangaroo-ville we pay about $17 for 30 x 375ml Coke or CokeZero cans. And its been that price for the past 8 years too....

There was a guy who took some pictures of pricing in Makro while visiting SA a couple weeks ago. Swambo and I sat in front of the computer looking at the photos holding our jaws in our laps......

Ironically the "fancy restaurants" are the worst at this. Wimpy seems the have the widest range of breakfast and lunch options for diabetics.

Interesting how the thread evolves around the "cost of sugar products" .... while the intent of the tax was to promote less use of sugar .... though some may argue it is just another source of income.

Chris the only way you have some success in promoting the less use of sugar is through some social development programme not through taxing the sugar price. Remember the sugar advertisement in which a young black child features dipping a vetkoek in sugar - a double dose of carbohydrates

PS - artificial sweetners are an option for diabetics. But make no mistake, in excesst this stuff is poisen....

Its a fact. I personally removed some of the high tech analytical equipment from the QC Lab in Randjiesfontein, Midrand who did the testing for Africa and Australasia. I know most of the companies that supply Coca Cola labs world wide with their equipment. And I can promise you the labs closed down.

    Agree fully with Tweeling.

The key to getting a population to cut down on unhealthy practices is education, not taxes.

Education however is a long term strategy, and we know our current government is very bad at these.

It's a bit like building houses for the poor instead of educating them in birth control and family planning. In the short term it keeps their voters satisfied (enough to vote for them again), but in the long term it will ruin the country as an ever-shrinking tax payer base no longer can support a welfare state.

Sugar tax puts money in the pockets of the government of today, it does nothing for the benefit of future generations.
