Post Recommandations Limpopo - South Botswana

    Hi,

We are planning our trip in November in South-Africa with a 4x4.

The first 6 days, we would like to go to the Limpopo region, as apparently it's not that touristic and beautiful specific nature.
We saw on the forum that South Botswana is also beautiful as well - we kind of like that idea and consider to spend some extra nights in Botswana.

    Do you have recommandations for:
    - one night stay for the road trip between Johannesburg and Mapungubwe National Park?
    - 3 nights stay in the neigbourhood of Mapungubwe (to enjoy the park but also to relax at the stay)
    - 2-3 nights South-Botswana (which stay, which game drives are recommended, is the border cross lot's of paper work besides passport and extra paper for the car?), ...)

    Afterwoods, we're heading to visit
    - North of Kruger Park (2nights)
    - South of Kruger (maybe in the Marlot park?) 4 nights
    - Drankenbergen (Bergville) and Lesotho (4 nights)
    - Clarens region (via golden gate) 1 or 2 nights

All tips and recommandations are very welcome!
This will be our second trip to S-Africa, our first one was with friends, but this trip we would prefer to enjoy more nature sounds, adventure, ...

Thanks a lot in advance for your comment!

Are you camping, caravanning or planning to stay at lodges?

When you talk about the south of Botswana do you mean south of Gaborone?

This borders with North West province.

Limpopo is closer to central Botswana, CKGR, Serowe, Selebi Phikwe and Francistown.

The Tuli block is just north of Mapungubwe National Park.

    hi thanks for the information

we're going by 4x4 and staying in lodges...
when talking about Botswana, we mean the region of the border line with south-africa - limpopo region.

is it worth to cross the border with paper work for just a few days in botswana?
how does it differ from south-africa? is nature different? or ... ?
are there specific game or game drives not to miss?

    thanks guys,

You can probably enjoy Mapungubwe and Southern Bots. Not sure how long you are here for, but if we are talking consecutive nights, I wish you strongs for the driving, as that is all you are going to be doing with your trip back to Northern Kruger a few days thereafter....

I assume you are probably speaking about Botswana's Tuli Block area (ie: Eastern Bots / bordering South Africa and Zimbabwe), as this would seem to be closer to the rest of your trip locations etc.

Cannot help you with that as I haven't been there. But this might help narrow it down a little and others can comment.

Yes, go visit Limpopo River Lodge in the Tuli Block on the other side of the Limpopo river (in Botswana) and explore from there for a couple of days. Border crossings are quick and easy if your docs are in order.

"how does it differ from south-africa? is nature different? or ... ?"

The bush changes as you travel and differs from area to area.

"are there a specific game or game drives not to miss?"

Check with the locals on site.

    "Do you have recommendations for:

I would stay a couple of night in the Waterberg area en route to Mapungubwe National Park.

    Google is your friend.

    http://www.waterbergwilderness.co.za/ is a good stay.

Limpopo River Lodge as discussed above.

    Hope this helps.
