Read this earlier, and thought of this thread.

Not only this forum, but at your workplace as well.

So many opportunities for people to "take offence"!

This does not bode well for us.....

What's the difference between generic hate speak and personal.

    Let's say, I post that -

    Rainier is a Fat Ba$teerd.

Is that different from posting -

Rainier you are a Fat Ba$teerd.

    ---------

He's actually not, but I couldn't think of anybody else as an example to insult without being crucified.

Besides, when he come around to klap me I will give him a few beers and the key to the RRS V8 SC for a spin.

We just need to learn from Langenhoven who said that half of parliament were not baboons.

Malema already uses that tactic with great success - "We are not calling for the slaughter of white people ... yet".

All you have to do is to state things in negative terms e.g. you are NOT an old toppie.

Some people say that South Africa is turning into a real third-world country. I say those people might be a tad optimistic.

You are not allowed to tell a Toyota owner that his car is a bit "landbou-agtig" anymore.

Groenman, you took the words out of my mouth! The fact that they left "weight" out of the characteristic list makes me feel marginalised.....

This is the opinion of an advocate.

"We are in trouble" (due to the absolute draconian impact of this)

Exactly! At least we have something left!

Oh, and we can always still call someone a Stormers supporter if we really want to insult them? (Or does that count as disability)

In all seriousness, this is real bad news. On the face of it the law might seem to have good intentions. But as pointed out, history is filled with examples of draconian governments using similar legislation to imprison those with views that are not in line with theirs.

There really is no other example in Africa where the free press and overall civil watchdogs are so well established. Think about it, if it was not for the free press and civil watchdogs we would not have known a quarter of the shenanigans the ANC was up to over the past 10 years.

This law will ultimately suppress free speech. I have no issue in curbing hate speech, but we know for sure how this law will be applied.
