No not a ventertjie but a trailer from kubu trailers or equivalent.

Then all your cooking stuff is sorted you have enough chairs etc.

    Baie maklik!

I have sat in a Prado jump seat from Joburg to PE as jump seats go they are not very comfortable.

The Mercedes GL is the only jumpseat that I know that works for long distance.

I think it is perfectly doable. They need to find room for 6 backpacks, of which everything can go in. A couple of camping stoves and a braai grid will serve 6 easily. Grab and run with the food, you don't need more than a couple of days worth at most. Small hiking tents or swags will go in the backpacks. Clothes to a minimum and toiletries.

OK so it is basic, so what, it's not like they are being dropped naked into a field

Damn, I'm starting to worry about this forum. For a 4*4 off-road forum there is a serious lack of adventurous spirit here.

You guys do realise it is possible to do things minimilustically sometimes and still have fun, if you have the right mindset.

I have all the gear to set up camp in luxury for up to 16 people and we cart it along and use it often, but even though I have it all, sometimes I like just taking a swag and a braai grid and figuring out the rest as we go.

The nay sayers here seem like a bunch of anal retentive pansies to me.

Sounds like a bunch of youngsters looking to have a good time, let then have some fun

As I see it you guys are intending to camp in wildlife areas, at least part time.

Its great to have FUN, but its gets VERY serious when something goes horribly wrong. For me, if there is an organised trip to be joined in Khwai/Dizhana, I would ddrive to Maun in a Prado, 6 of you, do the ORGANISED trip with the operator and return back home.

Ag, don't worry I have been called much worse on the forum. Proud member of whatever club.

The OP asked if the trip is possible. Some said yes, other had doubt. Problem is opinions are not respected anymore.

There is an extremely fine line between travelling light and being ill prepared going into a wildlife area where there is pretty much nothing in terms of help or assistance for a long stretch.

Thus far, almost nobody has mentioned some basics (not clothes or food) without which I deem travelers ill prepared for a wildlife area.

But hey, go knock yourselves out. Youngsters, haha

The older you get, the more allergic you are against a "######gesukkel".

So if the guy's and girl"s are up to it, why not. If perhaps they want to make the trip easier, I second the small trailer. At the end, its up to them, do-able for sure, will they still be friends at the end, up to them

I once had the displeasure to be a passenger in the back of my old 2.4 Hilux 4x4. Just from JHB to the Vaal. That was enough for me a 1.8m 110kg bloke to decide never ever to have an 4x4 without enough space and comfort. Yes, its possible to fit all of that into one car and yes, 15 clowns can fit into a Mini as well. But do you want to be the 15th clown to try and fit into the Mini?
Even driving with my Sedona in the Northern Cape between Springbok and Upington with just 4 adults in the car and everything else in the 7 foot trailer made me appreciate the space and comfort.
I did way to many trips of 800km in one day in a Samil 50 and today I insist on space and comfort. Maybe you can handle it but do you really want to come back from holiday feeling like you need a holiday?

No man contact Kubu4x4 (commercial member on here) and rent his smallest camp trailer.
There is no reason why it wont survive. Just make sure its and old ventertjie and not a new one.

If it was me, I would just do Khama - Kubu - Kasane and back to Maun via Nata. It might be a bit much to try Chobe as well.
Once you're at Kasane you're at Chobe anyway. I take it you mean not to go to Maun via Savuti/Moremi. Sinyati is a GREAT idea. I also think that a night at Elephant Sands would be a good way to break that long haul from Kubu to Kasane.

    +1

Roof rack is not going to do it.

1 x ammo box per person for clothing, toiletries etc. = 6

    1 x ammo box for foodstuff = 1

    1 x ammo box for cooking utensils = 1

    Total 8 ammo boxes

    3 x 2 man tents, 6 x sleeping bags and cushions

    3 x 20l water containers (for 2 days @ 5l pp)

2 x large cooler boxes, one for 2 days food and one for 2 days cold drinks

    Gas bottle and stove?

No mattresses, no chairs, no table, no firewood

Its do-able, been there, done that!

But .... Just rent a trailer
