    Default Sehlabathebe and Matebeng Pass

We are two vehicles travelling to Lesotho during Easter weekend. The highlight of the trip is to be Sehlabathebe/Matebeng Pass. Time however is limited. We have one of two options, firstly to drive and sleep a couple of nights in Lesotho, approaching Sehlabathebe. We can then roam about and get to see the infamous Matebeng Pass. The concen is exiting Lesotho. What border post would be best suited for this purpose as we are heading back to Gauteng. Is Ramatseliso an option doable?

The second option is to approach Lesotho from Ramatseliso's side and enter there. What is the condition of the roads going up to Ramatseliso's gate and beyond?

Has anyone done this before and/or have (recent) idea of what the roads and conditions are like?

    Right ...

    We did it!!!!

We did Lesotho over the Easter weekend and it was absolutely spectacular!

With little to no information on the condition of the Matebeng pass, we took the plunge and went for it. It was a serious 4x4 workout, but we were rewarded with awesome scenery and stories to last a lifetime. We spent some time in the Sehlabathebe Park and went out at Quacha's Nek.

Only the part from Caledonspoort to Mokhotlong was tarred. The rest was dirt roads. It is autumn and not yet the end of the rainy season, so it was at times wet, and during daytime never above 18'C.

Attached are the routes we travelled.

If one had to ask why do it, you'd know that they do not get Lesotho...!

I will post some pictures as well.

*edit note: I don't know how to turn the portrait pics, so this is about as good as my IT can take me.
