    Default Trailer/Boswa water tank purification

I have a Conqueror companion fitted with the standard water tank. Think its a 150L tank.

The 150L roughly lasts 6 camping days. So if stretched over separate weekend camping trips the water can be old by the second/third trip.

My question is, if I dont want to get rid of the remaining water after each weekend trip how can a treat the water. I have Googled (I know, very dangerous) adding HTH chlorine to drinking water, normal HTH you add in your pool. It basically boils down to a 1/2 teaspoon : 2L water for the solution and then 1.5L solution to be added in my 150L water tank. You Tube link below.

Any concerns or better ideas out there?

    Thanks
    Stefan

Add and dissolve one heaping teaspoon of high-test granular calcium hypochlorite (HTH) (approximately 1/4 ounce) for each two gallons of water. ... To disinfect water, add the chlorine solution in the ratio of one part of chlorine solution to each 100 parts ofwater to be treated.Feb 5, 2012

My obvious solution would be to take just enough water for the weekend, so if 150L last 6 days, just take about half a tank and drain the remaining, if any, on you lawn or into your pool or for flushing toilets. I have a thing about water just standing in a tank.

Alternatively why not use Milton tablets to keep the water usable rather than granular chlorine.

Do you actually drink that water.
I found it tasted horrible and had drink water seperate.
Used the tank water for washing dishes and showering.

    I have an Echo 3 with a 100 L HDPE tank

When returning from a trip I fill the tank
Then when leaving for the next trip I just check again if still full.

Once every 3-4 months I add 5 tablespoons of HTH to the tank just after returning from a trip and fill it
Next morning I dump that water and refill again. Not sure if the dosage is low or high, but it works for me.

We camp at least 7 times per year...of which 2 trips are 6-9 days at a time

SWAMBO has not yet complained about taste and we have had no stomach issues since we bought the trailer in 2008.

That is odd because both Milton solution and bleach are both basically sodium hypochlorite.

Miltons tablets are sodium dichloroisocyanurate and are specifically recommended for water purification.

Best in my opinion is still to drain the tank to empty until next trip.
