    Attachment 477519

    After Laminex

YES OR NO to the laminex? Its looking a little too gangster for my liking

When I was first looking at TJs I was looking for a black one so I could do exactly that. Nice one.

Leave laminex on for a while, if you don't like it after a month, pull it off.

I wonder if the 33" tyres might not be a wee bit too heavy? Perhaps gearing/ratios would help. Did this happen before the 33's were fitted?

Hi Chris, its always been an issue even before the lift and tyres. The car runs well and gets up to speed comfortably with hard acceleration. The problem is an initial "flat spot" on acceleration in First and second gear.

Its not serious, just a little annoying.

BTW, i got 300km on my first full tank!! Thats frikking heavy, however i have been driving the Jeep pretty hard. Lets see what happens on the next tank.

Just a guess but you may have a vacuum leak likely from a hose that has perished which causes the stumble/hesitation.

You should inspect and probably replace all the little vacuum hoses which are at least 10 years old now. Boring and fiddly but a good idea nonetheless.

Also inspect the mating surfaces at the air flow sensor/throttle body. Spray quick start over these areas while it is idling and it will show a leak if present by causing the rpm to increase.

Yeah. My throttle body got pretty dirty and started sticking open slightly on idle and causing other weirdness. Took it off and gave it a good clean and it was hundreds.

Remember everything on there is now 12years old at minimum.

Yep. Even if it does not cure your stumble, it is good maintenance to do which is often neglected. While you are in there, consider buying some electrical contact spray and cleaning connectors out as you go.

Isn't switch cleaner perhaps better for that application, it removes moisture, cleans, small amount of lube and increases conductivity?

Yep, that is what I meant. I like the Liqui-Moly one but any good brand will do

Spanjaard also makes one, I've been using it for years, available at Midas etc and not overly expensive.

With regards to getting a bit more sound, I just changed the rear muffler to one with a straight through pipe. Its also called a glass pack or hotdog as far as I know. Definitely made it sound a lot better, and no worry about the cat
