    Default Venter Left Brake Light

    Hi guys.

Tested the Venterís lights today for the upcoming trip in Friday.

Everything worked fine, except for the left break light.

All the others, including the right break light works 100%.

I checked the wiring on both the car plug and trailer plug and both are fine. I swopped the globes and the problem remained the same!!

    Any ideas?

    open the taillights.
IIRC the driverside gets the main feed on mine and then on the inside of the main trailer portion the left hand/passenger side is fed/powered.

inside the taillight the plug or wire could be corroded. I recently replaced my taillights (mcnaughtan's) and saw a couple of dodgy wire, but they all worked.

that is were I would look, if both plugs are good.

Going with Dwaynes method, get a multimeter and test wire continuity from one brake light to next.

Doubt it, a poor earth connection will normally result in the lights not operating properly, i.e. when you put an indicator on, the brake light might be flashing and vice versa.

I concur with DwayneP - the brake lights have one feed from the coupler to the back of the trailer from where it will split to left and right.

Use a multimeter to test from here to the actual light fitting, getting someone to push the brake.

the wiring on these Venters are terrible. I have an Elite 5, Electrical connectors barely reach their point of plug.

Be very careful to just buy from venter trailers. They quote me R65 for a taillight lens only, and bought exact same light as per trailer complete new R110 incl vat @ Mcnaughtans for both

    Default Venter Left Brake Light

Ok. Got it fixed. Thank goodness

I jammed the break on and tested between the right side brake wire(red in my case) and earth, got 10.3v

Then tested between the left hand brake wire and ground and got 9v.

I then removed the left and brake fitting and found that the connection plate has moved a bit. I bent it back, and there you go! It was a very small gap that was not obvious to the eye. Iíll have to replace the fittings in time.

With tail lights on a trailer. You get those where the globe is long with a metal cap on each end ie + & -, it fits between two plates. These plates tend to bend or give bad connections. The best I have found is when you have to push a globe into a spring type fittings similar to a house fitting

these venter ones are elcheapo, next time mine goes I am replacing with LED unit. Price diff is huge. R110 for both on standard vs +-R360 per taillight

Last time one of my tail lights was not working was because the bulb had come loose. To get it out needed SWAMBO's fingers. How it got loose is a mystery.
